I'm looking to buy a rebuild kit o'rings and gaskets, I checked rock auto and no luck, napa, and auto zone, when I was in town last time,(100 miles one way) hopefully somebody will know where I can look, Thank's MudGuts.

Or the IH dealer. They're usually cheaper. Remember there's 2 sizes, you need 2 of each. Gaskets are different between the truck, van and IH apps too, make sure you get the right ones.

I would definitly NOT want to buy the oil cooler assembly new XD!

 

do not use any type of silicone or other sealer on the gaskets, use high tack spray to glue them solidly to the headers nothing against the block, but if you must a VERY light as in see through coat of aviation permatex or indian head gasket sealer. any rtv will be a lubricant and split the gaskets, also do not overtorque.

the rock auto orings used to be a pain to get to slip in , so be sure the header is square with the bundle and it will push on by hand.

Thats why I bought all the uhaul ones when they came up, oem IH and they came with the right gaskets , which look like felpro made them, exactly the same.

 

I'd be worried about the quality of cheap O-rings too.... as much of a PIA as it is to do the job it's just not worth the risk to me. And if they do leak you'll be spending a ton of money on oil and coolant and trying to flush the lube and cooling systems. Been there, done that.... not fun.

Also, putting the new rings in requires care and patience. Put the O-rings on the tube bundle, not in the end caps. One of the service manuals out there tells you to put the small O-rings in the end caps and then try to assemble it... it doesn't work. Learned that one the hard way. Putting both on the bundle seems to work well and make sure to use plenty of lube too.

I've also seen a hydro jib made up for these using a chunk on steel drilled for the bolts and ports and an air fitting on one of the ports. You bolt the new cooler on, fill one side of it with water and pressurize the other with air... Leaks will show as bubbles. I can't remember the exact details, but it seemed pretty easy to set up and for sure worth it.
