Towing Options on 2004 F150

What were the towing options available in the 2004 F150 XLT 5.4L V8 with 6 ft bed? It has a 3.55 rear and I am trying to figure out what I can tow with the truck.

Okay what can you tow with an f 150 I would say a boat a motorcycle
a atv trailer
a small or medium camping trailer
a jet ski
two jet skis
and maybe a 2 or 4 place horse trailer.

Okay now seriously, if you're lucky enough to have your owners manual still that's the best way to get a good number on how much weight your truck can tow. As far as what comes with the towing package I know at least a 2" receiver hitch and a trans cooler are the big items I personaly would also consider the 3.73 a big plus.
Hopefully somebody who can be a little more specific will come along.
Oh and please don't tell them I made a joke they will jump on me like a pack of wild dogs.

Are you looking for the factory limits, or what you can safely tow?

I am looking at what can safety be towed. I need to make sure the truck I am considering buying would tow a 2-horse trailer. I need to know this information so I know what kind of trailer I can also buy.

In my opinion if the truck you mentioned is properly maintained it will be able to tow a standard 2 horse trailer (equipped with its own brakes) safely.

Yes it would probably tow it but if you could search around for one that has 3.73 gears and the factory tow package it would be a lot better for you.

Like skunk said trailer brakes would be needed for the added safety.

If your truck has a tow package (required for towing over 4000LBS)
Gross combination weight rating (LBS) 13000
Maximum loaded trailer weight (LBS) 7900
5.4L
3.55 axle ratio
Regular cab
126'' WB

My truck has the 3.73 rear end and towing package. It easily tows my 24ft Formula Cabin cruiser, so I would imagine that it would easily tow a two or maybe even four horse trailer.

The truck is a Supercab. How do I know if it has the tow package? Also, I tried to get the 3.73, but I am not having luck finding it. This truck I am looking at is in excellent condition, very low miles and a great price. The trailer weight is unknown only because after I buy a truck, that will determine what size trailer I can buy. Thank you everyone for all your great help!!

Everything you ever wanted to know about F-150 towing limits: https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...ng/default.asp

If you have the VIN, you might be able to get a window sticker here:

http://fordlabels.webview.biz/webviewhybrid/WindowSticker.aspx?vin="YOUR VIN HERE WITHOUT THE QUOTATION MARKS"

You can also look at the DOT sticker on the driver's side door jamb.

I can't get the link to work. Is a 2004 too old to find window sticker?

Yeah, 2004 is probably too old. You'll have to rely on the door sticker and the towing guide.

So, what should I look at to see what tow trailer upgrades the truck should have? Wiring harness? Pin connector? Radiator? Battery? If anyone has photos, that would help. Thanks!

Class IV trailer hitch (frame mounted)
7 Pin wiring harness
Upgraded radiator
Aux transmission cooler
72 amp/hr battery

The large transmission cooler is the clincher
