need info on 1947 ford pu rear ends

Hi guys I have a 1947 for pu I am restoring and I just pulled out the flat head drive train from the pu I am putting in a 302 Ford engine and a c4 tranny out of a 73 Torino I need to know if anybody has done the same or has info on what rear end would be the best to use with this drive train. The inside dimentions on the stock rear that came with the truck is 53 inches wide from backing plate to backing plate and 58 inches from drum to drum. I have a ford 9 inch rear from the 73 torino that measures 56 inches from backing plate to backing plate so that would mean there would be an inch and a half longer on each side if I use this rear also they had coil springs with the torino rear and the 47 uses leaf springs I know I would have to weld on new perches to use the torino rear. I also measured the rear from my 67 Mustang and the rear measures 54 inches from backing plate to backing plate that would only add a half inch to each side in stead of and inch and a half from the torino rear. I looked up a chart that gives you the dimentions of different widths of rear ends for each rear on line but the numbers are not the same as my numbers any info would be appreciated. thank you, John in PA

I used the rear end out of a 95 Explorer. It works for me. Check out my build.

Hi Christurney77 thanks for the info Where do I go to view your build? Do I click on your name and it will bring me to your posts? And if so then what do you want me to click on to read about the rear end you used on your project? Thank you, John

Go here:

Ford Ranger Rear Axles - The Ranger Station

It has great info on axle swaps. I have the same thing I am putting into mine.

I used a 9" out of a F150 on mine. As I recall it was right around 2" wider than what I wanted. I narrowed it by cutting just one side - worked out really well.
