I have a 66 f100 stepside with a 390 and a c6. I would like to swap in a manual transmission as it originally came with a manual and the pedal is still there. Any suggestions on a 4 or 5 speed that is a good mate to the 390 would be a great help. I am not real familiar with the 390 or its transmission options. Planning to keep the 390 mild.

Will most of your driving be over 60mph without a trailer or load in the box?
If so, then a transmission with an overdrive final drive gear is what you'll likely want. A mid-80s RTS (T170FT) transmission would fit that requirement.

If you do plan to work the truck, then a T-18 or a NP435 transmission without an overdrive final drive gear would likely suit you better.

Thanks for the reply, I have a boat I would like to be able to pull with the truck and I imagine I will haul some but there will likely be more hwy driving than hauling big loads or towing.

 

You can add a TKO 500 or 600 to the FE and Still do all the towing you want.

Speeddway sells the bellhousing to make the TKo swap.

You can also do a NV4500 Swap from a Dodge or Chevy with some modifications.
