Still don't like the skid setup so I moved on to crossmember. Boxing a frame has it's challenges and this is my maiden voyage.

This one was easy: Picks up the top and bottom of the frame.

This one I had to think about for a while. This CM sits on the frame at an angle and there are rubber wedges that bolt to the top to give the cab a little cushion. I had to move the CM back 1.5 to have enough room for the front of this CM to clear the transfer case and still clear the cab...hope. That forced me to drill one hole on each side to fasten the top to the frame.

Sliced off the top and welded to 6.0 plate.

How the heck did that get there....oh yeah, i whacked him this morning.

Back to the truck stuff. You can see there is a piece of angle at the top of dimpled plate that will bolt to the top plate making it removable. The top plate will stay in place if I need to remove TC or trans. Hopefully I'll be able to reach the bolts.

Still need to make the front half but some progress is better than none.

I'll probably add some wedges to the bottom plate to make it a bit wider. The original holes are only 1.5 apart and it looks like the frame has gotten a workout where it was mounted.

It just occurred to me that the bolts will have to be studs welded to the angle going up, as my hand aint fitting inside those dimpled holes to tighten it.....duh!

I know that it's too late now but, if that CM was still in the planning stage, could you have made the dimple holes (just by the nuts) a larger dia.?

Gary, that is the largest diameter die I have so studs it was....today.

Needed a piece of 2.5x1 angle..had to make do with what I had.

The beginnings of the radiator fiasco. I raised it up 1.5 to clear the steering box but going around the intercooler inlets/outlets and getting back to the core support is....well let's see what happens.

The radiator is perfectly even with the top of the core support. I really wanted to drop it further down to match the center of the fan better but I'm just going to have to build a shroud.

Anyone know how thick the rubber couplers are for the I/C? Hoping for .250

These are the lower supports(upside down) that will just locate the bottom of the radiator. I'll glue some soft rubber on them to keep everything from banging around.

Mark, if your talking about the rubber boots that connect the intercooler to the intercooler pipes then there is a website that sells every type of boot you can think of from different angles to different sizes but I can't think of the name to save my life right now. Do a search on the interweb. I was looking at it about a year ago for a different project I was going to do.

Sweet build!! After hightntight finished his crew build I didn't know what I was going to do with myself. Two hours and 20 pages later I now feel complete again

Thanks for the link Rob and as always, it's a pleasure to be the provider of entertainment.

8 hours, 1,000,000 thoughts, 10,000 test fits, a few prebent pieces of metal for some other part and a couple of cut off discs later. Thats one side... kinda done.

Some nice button heads will give it some added flavor.

Welp, renaming project "2 Tries" cause I seem to not like most of the fabbed parts I make and do it again.

Sooo, made new radiator brackets which grab the top of the I/C as well as the radiator and upped the plate to .125. I'm going to wait on the dimples cause I might want to mount something to the brackets later.

Core support is now fully welded and cleaned up. Even made a little skid plate progress today.

Much happier with these.
