Separating the exhaust header to crossover pipe?

2002 Escape V6 - How do you break the connection that's heated together? I unbolted and separated the flanges but am afraid to beat on it too hard with a hammer, may break the cast iron or the aluminum head. Don't have a torch to heat it up with. How do you take the pipes apart that are stuck together without damaging anything?
