65 F100 Transmission Kickdown Help...

I replaced the 352 in my 65F100 with a 390 c/w Edelbrock Performer intake and 4 barrel carb. The transmission kickdown linkage/rod is now too short to connect the carb to the lever on the transmission. The transmission is original and I believe is a MX Cruise-O-Matic.

It looks like my options are to purchase a Lokar or Autoloc cable or maybe extend the existing rod. Any opinions would be helpful.

Also, I cannot find any info on how the kickdown works and how it should be set-up in relation to the rod and carb. Is the lever on the transmission in the up or down position when in "kickdown", and what should the carb position be. Is it full throttle or some percentage i.e when should the transmission go to kickdown mode?

It needs to be set so that when the throttle is wide open, the kickdown lever is moved to the end of it's travel. It's very simple and a Lokar cable setup will come with full instructions.

My '66 has an edelbrock performer intake and holley 4bbl- And a c-6 auto. All of it was installed by a prior owner. They just took the kickdown off- Never replaced it.

I used a Lokar kickdown cable, installation was super easy, took me about an hour or so, and I have NO idea what I am doing... Instructions were great, and it works perfectly.
