Airbag location

Very interested in this ifs swap lexcoe, do you think its possible to fit a airbag setup between the upper and lower arms? then i could remote mount the shock absorber elsewhere.

Yes, i am sure you can fit one in there, and a shockwave would probably fit even easier.
Thats what i am considering, except for the cost of the dang things.....
If you need any more specific information please feel free, i will try to help if i can.
Wow, i,ve inspired someone else to think about the Lexus IFS......LOL

John, I think that you have drawn me into becomming a darksider.

I have installed several IFS kits but your Lexus conversion has really made me sit up and take notice,,,I think that you have made a home run with your idea, so much so that I called my local junkyard today and asked them to look around for a lexus for me to rob from.

How are you doing the engine/xmsn wireing? or did you buy the entire car so you could rob the harness that is needed?

I ask because I need to know whether to pick up the car of just the IFS and IRS sub assemblies.

Gary

PS,,you have done some great work and I can't wait for the IRS install.

Geez, sorry guys, i might have started something.....LOL

Gary, i did buy a complete, cosmetically challanged SC400 to rob everything out of, including the harness. Lexus v8 swaps are fairly commonplace in Australia, so there are guys that modify the harness to suit whatever fairly cheap. Thats exactly what i did, so mine is ready to install when i get to that stage.
However, i think if you get onto the Lextreme website/forum there are some good explanations about how to modify your harness yourself.
So does that mean you are considering the 32 valve, DOHC, six bolt main, all alloy efi engine as well?
I hope to start on the IRS install in the next few weeks, but will see how work/time and funds allow.
Welcome to the darkside, John

Weellll, lets just say that I am considering going with the entire Lexus drivetrain, depending of course on the price of the donor car with engine, mileage, and extent of damage.

I have a 302 and AOD sitting on a pallet right now that I can use but if I decide to slink over to the dark side with Lexus suspension,,,,,why not go all out and upgrade the engine too,,,,, just a thought.

Of course my whole plan rotates around what the salvage guys want to stick me for. I may stay the course and go back to my original plan which is the 302, TCI IFS and 4 link.

I was just offered the complete front suspension from a SC400 last night for $300, so they can be bought pretty cheap. I am sure some shopping around will see similiar prices in the USA, if not cheaper cos you guys got way more of them than in Australia.
Either way, its all good cos 302/aod is also a great way to go. John

I looked into this swap some time ago and followed up with a search for donor cars/components. I found a guy in Los Angeles that had a whole yard full of Lexus SC cars...his prices were very competitive. I was a bit surprised because those cars initially sold for big bucks.
