starter spinning but not engaging
Ok i just got everything buttoned up after replacing my head gasket. I am trying to start it for the first time and its not going.
the stater is spinning but not engaging the motor. the starter wasworking fine before the head job so I think i may have wired it wrong but the wiring is simple.
I have a wire going from the battery to the positive post on the starter then on the other post there is a wire that goes down to another part of the stater and then a wire going to a ground.
i hope its not a bad starter

You should have a main heavy gauge wire direct from battery positive to a big terminal on the starter with no other wire on it. There should then be a lighter gauge wire coming direct from the fender mounted starter relay to a small terminal on the starter. If you have that the starter should engage.

ok guys i'm at a loss. I got a new starter at Autozone. It was tested it works fine. I put the new one in and its stil not engaging.
Just a re cap
I pulled the motor but didnt touch the flywheel and didnt touch the adapter plate or what ever its called. Both of them look like they haven't moved (i dont even think there is away for them to move). Did the guys at autozone give me a bad starter because that is the only thing i can think of. unless you huys know of something ense that could be causing it

Watch to ensure the bendix does indeed shoot out and spin ...
