I have done a search but not really found what I need. Does anyone know if a F150 super crew diesel swap has ben done and if so what engine was used the power stroke or the cummings or something else and what might be involved in the swap. I have a 2001 F150 super crew 4x4 with the automatic trans but would like to possibly do the diesel conversion with either the stock auto or maybe swap out for a manual. I wil be collecting the parts and engine over time and the engine would be rebuit befor the install. Any help would be appreciated esspecially if someone had a link or something to this being done before. I considered selling the truck and getting a crew cab with the diesel already but I really like the supercrew's dimensions not to big and not to small. Thanks again.
I have read where there have been a few done most have used the 4bt they are available used in a lot of cube vans for delivery purposes I would go with the nv4500 manual transmission and the 271
What abt the lcf truck powertrains? The 4.5 liter diesel and the 5r110....the only thing being you have a 4X4, but, a 5r110 from a superduty would fit. The 4.5 is a 6.0 that someone stole 2 cyls. (lol) Just a thought.
The LCF is like a small "C" series cabover , I think 450 or 550 series vehicle. Anyway try googling ford lcf trucks. It has a 4.5 liter diesel which is basically a 6.0 thats missing 2 cylinders. It should be a better fit in a SCREW as it is i would guess 25 percent shorter assembly and the 5r100 transmission comes with it. Another thought if you are interested in a stick is maybe a 5 or 6 speed from a superduty would bolt to it although i dont know about a proper flywheel assembly. I also believe the motor is a navistar so parts wise shouldnt be a problem. The lcf is like the small hino cabovers or mitubishi cabovers you may have seen running for small courier or delivery companies. They have 16 inch wheels and a payload of 4 to 6000 lbs. so although its not a cummins or a full size powerstroke it should be ok in a half ton pickup. Also it should have enough power for that and be smaller than the aformentioned engines.
with all the issues the 6.0 has does its sister engine have the same issues or not right now the way the epa is killing diesels I would personally stay with the older diesels there are a vast number you can chose from
for the f150 these would be choices of mine
I of course prefer the cummins and the 4bt
but there are several good engines in the 125-200 hp range that would work
if you can make your own adapter plate then options are endless you could choose from
cat, cummins, perkins john deere, isuzu, nissan, there are several more that would work as well
