Can anyone tell me what gearbox this is?

Can anyone identify this chevy gearbox thats in my friends F1, its developed a severe fluid leak from what looks like some sort of "capsule" thats located right by the crossmember, sorry for the pics as it now cannot be moved out of his cramped garage until we determine whats leaking and why.

The 4th pic down at the odd angle shows the part that is leaking quite badly.

+2 on the TH350. Take a look at the pan and compare it to the pictures on this website, Chevrolet Chevy Transmission Identification and Decoding.

Thanks again guys for the fast replies and your knowledge !!
Picture 4 [if you turn your head to the left] shows the part thats leaking, looks like a vacumn capsule or similar. It looks to me that whoever fitted the engine\trans didn't give much thought to clearance of the g\box crossmember and this part is now almost sitting on it, somehow causing the fluid to really leak out at some speed.
If anyone can tell me what that is and could it cause the major leak?
Thanks.

This is the best comparison shot i could find, it looks like its that little gold gizmo near the back end that seems to be held in by that bracket, i think some metal may have to be removed from the crossmember to get more clearance.

That's the vacuum modulator. Don't remember on the TH350 but, the Fords have a rod that goes in modulator and trans - that you don't want to lose.
Make sure the rear mount is ok.

Thank you, it will help greatly when trying to ask for repair parts\gaskets etc.
Atm i cant get a good view of it, plus its still on the cold side weather wise here and no-one wants to get under anything, let alone a truck.
And your right, there's something not right about the rear mount as this has just come out of the blue.

It looks like the vac mod took a hit, either it's my imagination or it's crooked. There should be a vacuum line going to it, too.

If the diaphragm in the modulator valve fails the vacuum line will suck up tranny fluid
causing the engine to burn white smoke quick fix in the old days was to pull line and put golf tee in , especially if you were about to sell the vehicle in question .Sorry to say but I
put in some time at a GM dealerships used car service dept. when I was a young apprentice (many, many years ago)

Thanks yet again, saves me trying to ask some parts store for a "whotsit".
And yes it does look crooked as though someones damaged it or its hit the crossmember good and hard and obviously the 350 motor and trans will be secondhand so who knows whats happened there.
