Oil leaking out of it is about it.

X2 on this. How much difference is acceptable between the desired psi and the actual psi? Thanks

Should be very minimal. I think 5% or more will set a code.

Just wondering, mine were close. Of course if its too far off,,,, its not gonna be the icp, isnt the icp just a read only sensor, either it works or not. I wanted to know if that would be the first indication of a sticking ipr?

Well, it can work intermittently if it gets oil soaked, but yes just read only.

The ICP can tell you there is a system problem but not necessarily that it's the IPR

Someone with more knowledge may chime in, but this is what I can deduce from taking the HPO system apart.

Changes in high pressure oil system are recognized by the PCM as the difference between the reference "in" voltage in and voltage "out" of the ICP sensor. The PCM then controls the oil pressure by regulating the opening and closing of the high pressure oil bypass valve or IPR. When the IPR opens, oil will flow directly back to the HPOP, which then reduces the oil pressure to the injectors. Failed open IPR will not allow the HPO system to increase oil pressure. A clogged IPR would cause a loss in the ability for the PCM to properly regulate the oil pressure on the high side.
