Oil Leak: To fix or not not fix??

Okay guys: 2005 Excursion 6.0, 82K miles, recently developed a small oil leak. I get about 1 drop or so on my driveway per day. I can't really tell where it is coming from. There is oil residue up above the oil pan and the drip is coming off of the bell housing. The truck has never had any issues at all except for a coked up EGR valve replaced 15K miles ago. My understanding is that for the majority of these oil leaks, the motor has to be pulled.

My truck is still under the ESP warranty plan through Ford until December of this year. I am trying to decide if I want to have the motor pulled to fix a seemingly minor oil leak or not. It runs awesome currently and has been as reliable as any vehicle I have ever had. Is there any possible down side to pulling the motor? Is it likely to get worse over time? So would you have the motor pulled for a small oil leak or not???

Well before worrying about pulling the motor, bring it in and find out what it is. There are plenty of leaks that don't require pulling it.

Then if it is something that needs to pulled, you can decide then.

I agree with David. Have them at least identify the leak under your warranty. That location could be as simple as a turbo leak, or on a truck of that age it could even be simply CCV oil leaking off the CAC boot. Either of which would be easy fixes, and not require pulling the motor.

Take it in now and let them fix it. That way you still have 10 months left for them to fix anything that could go wrong. If you wait till the warranty is almost up then you don't have any time to wring it out.
