My little bro picked up a truck last night. It's a 1978, short box, regular cab. The guy we got it from said it's a "very rare f-140" what's a f-140? Is there such a thing? How can we tell for sure? Vin reads F14BLBD1004.
Mine is a 1978 SB 1/2 ton as well. It says F-140 on the door sticker. I don't think they are that rare, if so I got a heck of a deal for $1200 then, LOL
VIN F14= 77-up F150 4WD pickup....nothing rare at all, that's how Ford differentiated the F150 4WD from 2WD in the VIN.
Model F140 on the warranty plate = 76-up F150 4WD pickup w/ 6050 lb GVW.
This info is from the 1973-79 Ford F100-500 truck parts catalog.

No such thing as an F140. The guy got that F140 jazz either from the F14 SERIES code, first three digits of the VIN and/or the F140 MODEL code stamped on the Warranty Plate.
Ain't them there those new trucks that have them new fancy muffler bearing at both the front AND back of the muffler ??? Ya know, so the spin real good...
