Just did a 1300 mile run from north ga to northern Ohio with my 2012 f250 lariat cc 4wd with 3.73's and 20" factory wheels/tires. I got 14.3 and that was running to keep up with traffic flow and 95% interstate. Truck was basically empty as I just had a 200 lb aluminum pig popper in the bed and a 300lb show pig in the box. Never ran into any heavy traffic and only stopped to fuel up and eat. Wish I could get the 15-17 mpg some guys claim but I don't think it's gonna happen with this truck. Overall I'm pleased with the truck and while I'd love to have the power of the 6.7 I've crunched numbers till I'm sick and usually I realize my cost per mile is the same as there's when I factor in added maintenance costs of the 6.7. I needed the truck to tow a gooseneck livestock trailer a few times a year and the rest of the time it's a DD for me. I've put 15k on the truck since I bought it last year used with 13k on the clock and my trip "a" has never been reset since I got it last year and I've managed to average 12 mpg. I reset trip "b" each tank along with the instant read out and usually avg mid 12's with winter blend and mid 13's with summer blend. Only towed 3k miles and usually avg 8-9.5 mpg on those tanks. If I towed more I'd probably switch to the oil burner as I believe they offer a better towing exp over all. Also tossing the idea around of getting the 5star to see if it really makes the truck come to life as claimed by so many.

I am getting 13 mpg's life of truck sitting at 2500 miles so far, considering I bought truck in December and it has only run on winter fuel, I will wait in see how it does this summer,, I like a gas 6.2L just because its simple/easy maintenance, it might not get the mpg's as a diesel but I also didn't pay $8300 up front plus all the upkeep of the maintenance of the truck/engine required especially in cold winters. It tows ok, the power doesn't start until you get to 3000k RPM's then the truck pulls. Would have to say my EB MaxTow towed better/easier but they both get the same MPG's while under tow. What kills me on this engine is how this things sounds like a diesel at idle..This engine has got a lot of noises, cam phasers clacking, exhaust leak type sounds, diesel sound,, but it starts and runs and if I can get the same 12 yrs out of this truck like my last SD then it was worth the purchase..

Its funny how you comment on the engine noise of the 6.2L...mine makes most of the noise you describe, but it varies. Some days it starts up forcefully with a smooth, powerful V8 sound, then quickly settles into a very low (500RPM) and quiet idle. This, I like. Other days it raps when it starts, then typically clatters at idle for awhile until it is driven. This, I hate. Somedays it seems you can hear the fuel injectors, but I'm guessing its the valves. Mine also intermittently whistles, seemingly starting this winter. If you are standing near the exhaust tailpipe when it starts, it lets off a great sounding burble when it starts. It is true, the power is mostly all north of 3k...this is somewhat typical of an OHC engine. However, someone has pointed out Ford limits maximum throttle until the RPMs are above 3,000; I think it will only give you 85% even when the pedal is to the floor. One last comment about noise; I believe only the 6.2L engines have a noise-suppression hood pad; the 6.7L engines do not. I like the hood pad; the Ford logo emblazoned into it is a nice touch.

My 6.2 makes about as much noise as a cemetery when compared to my old 7.3.

No doubt, its all relative. But the new 6.7L is really quiet.

Just complete a run from Tucson to Ingram TX (800 miles) with the trailer. We gross at 24300 with the trailer loaded and ran between 60 to 63 and averaged 9. Lots of wind and rolling hills, the 6.2 did a great job.

I think its awesome the 6.2 can move this bulk around fairly well. And really, the mileage is not that bad given the work being performed.

I just towed a 9,000 pound trailer from New Jersey to Florida, almost all of the trip on interstate highway 95. Only left the interstate for fuel, and most of the fuel stops were right at the exit. We did hit some traffic ( stop & go traffic ) in a couple of areas, otherwise all highway speeds between 55 & 65 mph. Total trip just over 1100 miles - gas mileage - hand calculated 9.9 mpg. Truck had just under 8500 miles when we started out.

I have had my truck for roughly 2,200 miles (32,400 when purchased) so far and have averaged a little over 15 mpg. The 500 mile trip home from buying it made 16.4 and our 1600 mile round trip to Ohio and back made right at 14.9 mpg. We were not towing anything, but the truck was carrying a fairly full bed and three people on the long haul. I am VERY pleased to say the least so far.

9.8 mpg

I got around 10 mpg on the drive home with my 6.2L lariat super cab long bed 4:11 rear end. Now I have 1,600 miles on it and never get above 9.8. I am a conservative driver, and hugely disappointed with these numbers.

Did you change out your gears to 4:10s? Never heard of them in the super duty with the 6.2. The 3:73s are standard with the 4:30s optional.

There is no way you're getting under 10 unloaded, unless your truck needs some fixing or your beating the snot out of it.
There are no 4:11's on a 6.2 super duty.

2500 miles, I average 13.5 mpg 50:50 mix highway:city no towing. I've seen as high as 16.3 avg mpg on a highway trip with minimal wind and mostly flat terrain. Jumped up about 1 mpg with summer fuel. I averaged 12.5 mpg in the winter.
