I've got a 2012 6.2L DRW XL 4WD.

Did some towing in the PNW from Seattle down to Astoria OR (About 190 miles) over the Memorial Day weekend. We aren't known for having the flattest land around here. It's pretty hilly to say the least.

I averaged pretty much right at 10MPG between 60 and 65 MPH. I figure I'm towing somewhere between 8,000 and 8,500 pounds.

I'm pretty happy with that. I might throw a tuner on it. Even if it only gives me 1 MPG better, that's still 10%!

I have been experimenting with driving. Now I know I can not be exact with weather conditions exactly, but its close. These numbers are all hand calculated and for reference, the so called lie-o-meter was always within 1 mpg which I feel is decently accurate since it does not show decimals.

If I use the cruise and hold it at 59-60 I hit between 17-19 mpg on average. I did hit 20 on one trip that was 120 miles. If I am going through towns so a lot of slow down and accelerate, it lowers down to average 16-17 mpg. Interstate driving at 70 mph it will hold at 14 mpg on average. If the wife uses it to go to work (6 miles one way) some highway rest city driving it averages 12 mpg, but normally the transmission is not up to normal operating temp yet. That makes a huge difference in mpg's.

60mph I average 8-9 mpg. I won't double tow on interstates with it.

 

Made a trip to Florida last week for vacation. It was about 315 miles each way. Got 15.6 on the road coming back and 15.8 going down. I was ready to get home so a little less mileage coming back. I was running 65 to maybe 70 avg most all of time but did have some stop lights to go thru in some of the towns. This mileage is great. I had a 5.4 f150 that couldn't do this. During the week we stayed around 14.2 traveling around doing some sightseeing.

 

New to this forum and new to the F250 Community. After trading in my F150 (4.6L).
I needed something to tow my Car hauler.
I can only go by what the dash indicator is reading. Upon getting in the truck at the dealership is read 11.3 MPG. But for my trip back to Va from NC it climbed to 16.4 MPG.

Here are my findings so far. the number rough calculations from the on board computer and by hand. I found I am within about .2-.4 MPG between the Scangauge, on board, and hand calculations.

15.5 MPG All highway. "Empty" Just truck box with wife and daughter in the truck as well.

Around 12.5-13 mixed highway (interstate)/ stop and go on 45 MPH traffic controlled roads

The more surprising number was towing. Rough estimates on a 32 mile trip with a route that is all hills going 65-70, The truck was doing 10.5 MPG with a 30 foot ,6000 pound TT behind it. If this is the case, I will be doing better than my 150s best of 9.5 MPG. This will make me a very happy camper. I attribute the mileage to the fact the truck does not labor as much therefore fuel savings.

Overall my numbers are not too far off what my 99 F150 did as a truck a truck. This is impressive to me as the F250 is about 1600 pounds heavier with more displacement from the engine over the F150.

 

Well I'm BRAND NEW FORD Truck owner... I was a CHEVY/GM Guy my whole life then my friend said you have to check out the fords... well i did and DAMN i switched in a heartbeat. My wife calls it the SPACE SHIP... this F250 SD is much larger than the 1500 GMC and so much nicer

any way... posting my mileage it's brand new so it's still tight..

6.2L with a 3.73 Rear
From Detroit to St. Ignus up north i was getting 15.6 MPG at 75 MPH
now on the way home i was doing 80 and i got 15.1 all the way home not to bad... (GMC might have done 17-18 here)

in the city so far I'm averaging about 14 to 15 (GMC did 15-17)

also the screen is about .2 off of what i actually hand calculated.. but it's very close

i just rolled 2000.00 miles... about 6 weeks old now... mileage should get better as it loosens up a bit...

now towing... short haul only so far...

10,000 car hauler on the bumper got about 10-11MPG at 65 MPH

again on par for my 1500 with the 5.3L, BUT the trucks are night and day hauling the same trailer.

so far this truck is just amazing...

 

My truck is a '12 Crew Cab 4x4 6.2L and now has 3400 miles. I live in NH which is mostly hilly country. In all city driving, I probably get 10 MPG, and on slower highways (50-60mph) I get the best mileage, around 15-16. On the interstate going 70mph, I usually get between 13-14mpg. Towing my landscaping equipment (weight about 4-5k lbs) I usually get less than 10mpg. The most I have ever gotten is 17.4mpg driving very gently on a trip which is conducive to good fuel economy. The worst I have ever gotten is 5.9mpg doing all towing going up over some hills.

Still, for a very heavy vehicle with a lot of power, the F-250 does OK. I have a '92 Range Rover which gets similar mileage but has a tiny 3.9L V8 and makes 180hp. So the big Ford is doing OK.

 

11 Screw 4x4 6.2 36,000 3.73 and 15 is the best average I have gotten that's a round trip from Lake Anna to Richmond and back 1/2 back road the rest interstate doing the speed limits.

Towing our 32' camper 8 all day long using manual or auto it does not matter.
Towing through the mountains 7.

But she does not mess around I love it and I drive it a little aggressive, but not over the top, coming back from the beach last week the wife had to remind me to get out of the passing lane and slow down I forgot the camper was back there!

 

Just did another trip across Nebraska (flat) and Iowa (hilly) and this thread was in the back of my mind so I kept very accurate details on the trip. 2011 SRW Crew long bed with 3.73: 635 miles heading east towing a 24 ft. pontoon (I'll try to load a picture) weighing 6,000 lbs, doing 70 mph, into a 5-10 mph (call it 7.5 avg.) headwind I got 10.1 exactly. 'D' with tow/haul activated until I was up to speed, and then 'M' with no more than 1 downshift on hills. I actually got better mileage across Iowa because that wind was murder in NE. I would have rather been hauling a 35' camper. The air wanted to go around and UNDER the middle of the pontoons. It felt like I was pulling a sail. Dropped it off, and buzzed back doing 75 mph into a steady 10+ mph headwind (knew that east wind wouldn't last), with two passengers and 800 pounds in the bed and got 16.1. Was curious how much I could stretch it so I didn't use cruise control on the way back at all. Probably saved me some gas across Iowa. Thought 16 was pretty good for that speed into the wind with a little payload.

Also, my lie-o-meter seems to be getting more accurate with time. It was within .3 this whole trip.

 

I've been racking a bunch of highway miles on mine this last week. I've noticed the mph I choose makes a big difference in mpg. At 70 mph I was getting 15 mpg. At 65 mph I was getting 16 mpg. And at 60 mph I got 19 mpg.

This was over the same piece of road, between Minot and Bismarck on Hwy 83. Each day I set the cruise control on the selected speed and just let her buck.

I'm really blown away at the 19 mpg at 60 mph. I really didn't think it was possible. I lose .5 mpg if the air conditioner is on.

This is a '12 SD ext cab long bed 4x4 with the 3.73 gears. Just me (200 lbs) in cab, truck box with maybe 200 lbs max weight in it, and 2 ladders in bed. Open bed, no topper or cover.

Yeah, I'm happy.

 

We just got back from a 2K trip with the trailer, the trailer and truck scale at 24.3K loaded for the road. On our 800 mile trip north all freeway with some wind none of it behind us we averaged 8..5 and on the trip back we averaged 8 with 80% of the roads being 2 lane with hills and small towns and agian wind. The one time I checked the milage none towing highway it was at 16 and 12 mixed city and highway. The truck had 870 miles on it when we left so I think it will get better over time.

I was very interested in your mileage with 24K truck and trailer. My 05' 6.0L hauling 12,500 and truck at 7300, add it up and it's 19800# and I only get 11.2 or 11.4 towing. That is impressive with the 4:30 gears which is exactly what I would get if I were to go and buy a new one. I have a 2 WD SC and only single rear wheels, which I don't know if that would make much of a difference in the mileage. With a 6.2L engine, I would be very happy if my truck got say 9 miles per gallon towing. Considering the extra cost of the diesel pkg and all of the extra's that go along with the diesel, like fuel filters and 15 qts. of oil, DEF fluid on the new ones etc., I think 2 or 3 mpg difference gas to diesel is not bad. I know the diesel tows a bit better torq wise, but I am hopeful that the 4:30 gears can offset that difference and not be too sluggish. I won't know myself, until I get one, but I hope to make the change soon. Thanks for the update it's food for thought.

Update for me: truck now has 8500 miles on it, winter driving in NH, hubs always locked in, and 4x4 for much of the time lately: 9.5MPG average for city and highway, probably biased a little towards city.

Interestingly, though, on a snowy 60-mile interstate run the other day, in 4x4 the whole time, doing 65mph, it got about 14 mpg.
