93 f150 wiper problems with motor?

hey all, before truck was garaged for maintenance the last thing to go was the windshield wipers.. the timer had always been iffy.. sometimes worked sometimes not so much, and the washer fluid had never sprayed, whenever I tried I simply got a click from somewhere on the passenger side dashboard.. and then, both wipers stopped working.. similar click from the side, so i removed the 8.25 amp metal box fuse that was in the fuse panel under wiper/washer and replaced it with a 10amp blade fuse, which fit into the space from the box fuse, turned the truck on, tried the wipers, same click from the passenger side then the fuse blew, is this a wiring issue? or do I need this replacement 8.25 amp metal fuse? hopefully not the actual wiper motor or regulator gone south cause those are way more money. thanks

this is the 8 and a quarter amp fuse: cant find a new one at any auto parts store

The "8.25 amp metal box fuse" is actually a self-resetting circuit breaker, reinstall it. Unplug the wiper motor and see if you still hear the clicking of the breaker. if it still clicks then the motor isn't the problem rather more likelu the wiper motor control module behind the glove box.I can send you the circuit info and diagnostics if you PM or e-mail me your e-mail address.

If the "park" switch inside the wiper motor sticks closed, it can cause a continuous power drain even with the wiper switch turned off. The metal box is a bimetallic circuit breaker (which resets itself when it cools off), which I would leave out of the circuit until you determine the cause of the current draw.

okay I'll try unplugging the wiper motor then and seeing where it goes from there, thank you both, if the wiper motor was stuck closed like you said redmond, is there a way to reset the motor or would you need to buy a new one?

Sounds more like the control **** on the end of the turn signal level/Multi-function switch is dirty or gummed up. This is a VERY common problem on this vintage truck. The end **** that controls the wiper timer/speed can be removed so you can clean the contacts. Here is some info from Steve83: 1983 Ford Bronco MultiFunction Switch pictures, videos, and sounds | SuperMotors.net

Take a look at the photos and captions starting at photo 14

I don't know - on some wiper motors, you can take a cover off to get to this switch. On others, it's completely sealed.

These days, it's pretty much buying a new or rebuilt wiper motor - nobody takes things apart and fixes them anymore!

I have unplugged the motor like you said and I am still getting the clicking sound from the passenger side. Does this mean it is surely the module and not the motor?
