Into 2015? Do you plan to actually drive that truck? 3 filters would last me... oh, maybe a year!

Those were a good read; I hadn't seen those before.

FRAM??

Buddy of mine had an engine failure and the dealer blamed it on the Fram filter leaking.
Beware of this and ask if your dealer will cover this. Is it a warranty approved filter?

Was the claim denied because it was a Fram filter, or just because the installed filter was leaking? Big difference if the filter was installed wrong, or just had a defect. It could happen to a Motorcraft as well.

He claimed it was the fram filter. I am sure he would not admit if it was not installed properly.LOL

Are Fram filters warranty approved?

been using FRAM filters for many years on many trucks without problems...clean em with compressed air every few months and change em every year and a bit after 2 or 3 air cleanings, so 3 filters should last me into 2015 easily.

For an extra $5 a filter (.01482% of the out-the-door truck cost), I'll stick with the MC.

Good move going with the paper.

I had a Volant kit on my 05' 5.4L and loved filter maintenance (none) and the way it sounded. I have been reading more and more lately on K&N fouling the MAFs on modern cars from over-oiling, and as noted earlier, it's just a PIA to have to do the maintenance for minimal (if any) gains. Quite a few companies now make dry, re-usable air filters (AEM and the Volant at least), so there are plenty of options out there if you want to "upgrade".

Hey Tony (IF you're still lurking about..)-
By any chance does your Volant unit have the Donaldson element in it? It might have come out after you got yours. But if so, how has it done? Thinking of making the move to Volant myself, and would like to know...

Mine didn't have the Donaldson element in it, but the air intake itself was fantastic for the time I had the truck. I see they just came out with one for my Ecoboost now, so I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on that.

If it comes with the dry filter element I would jump on it. Just avoid anything oiled, imho.

I put K&N's on my Mercedes and the MAF freaked out. I am very skeptical of putting a K&N on another vehicle with a MAF........

I also have an airaid drop in on my 2006 f-350 for 5,000 miles. no SIGN of issues.
