Bulletproof EGR cooler - any downside?

For those who have the Bulletproof EGR cooler, is anyone not happy with it? Is there any downside to installing it?

My existing Ford cooler is fine and less than 2 years old, but I'm going to have that thing out anyway, and wondering if I should just change it out for zero labor?

If there's a downside I don't know what it is, other than replacing a cooler that's still good. As long as it's coming off anyway you might as well.

Do you feel it adequately cools the exhaust gas charge? I heard somewhere that you monitor IAT2.

I've never run the truck with stock tuning long enough to tell what the difference is, and even if I did I wouldn't know what I was looking at as far as what the difference should be.

Had mine for over 2 years, no problems, don't expect any. If you compared them side by side, it would make it very easy to throw a good stock one away.

I put one in last summer as my stock EGR cooler was leaking. Also replaced the oil cooler, but did not replace the EGR valve. Cleaned it up and put in back in and things seemed good. But the EGR cooler started throwing codes three weeks ago while out of town and i ended up replacing it on the road. All is good again.

I would not put in the Ford eom EGR cooler. Bulletproof is the way to go.

Bill - it cools adequately for engine operation. It may not cool adequately for the emissions target (NOx) set by the government - but who knows.

No issues with mine.

If you were to compare both the OEM and the BulletProof coolers side by side I think you would probably throw the OEM cooler away! I put the BulletProof cooler in my truck a few weeks back...nothing wrong with my OEM cooler at the time, but I was not going to reinstall it.

I replaced the EGR valve three weeks ago, sorry if I was not clear on that.
Around August of last year I replaced the leaky Ford oem EGR cooler with a Bulletproof EGR Cooler. Also replaced the oils cooler with another Ford OEM oil cooler( a must do or at least rebuild the oils cooler if your EGR cooler is shot). Would have liked to install the Bulletproof custom air oil cooler they have, but just too much money.

I should have replaced the EGR valve as well at that time, but felt it was ok. Now I find guys telling me the they always replace the three
EGR Cooler
Oil Cooler
EGR Valve when they do that EGR cooler replacement. (but as yours truck is new you are in a different situation.)

Would have saved me some grief out of the road had I replaced the EGR valve at that then. But saved me money at the time.

Yes, when you compare the two EGR coolers there is a big difference
- oem Ford was round and aluminum
- Bulletproof was more square and stainless steel and heavier. Even looks more impressive (to me anyways).

Bolts in the same way and fits perfectly at both ends.

Sorry , just re-read my note, it was the EGR valve that was throwing codes not the EGR cooler. I replaced the EGR valve on the road three weeks ago. All is good again.

It will wear out your seats and steering wheel based on the fact you'll own it longer, be driving it harder and enjoying it more.

Installed mine a year ago and passed the Nevada emissions test which uses a sniffer in the exhaust while running on a roller. The test requires a slow acceleration up to 2k RPM IIRC.

So are you talking about replacing the cooler or do a delete. I dont see how replacing the cooler would make a difference on emissions? only if you delete it, anyone from Colorado passed emissions with a delete kit?
