51 panel truck rear quarter repairs

The drivers side rear quarter on my panel was really mangled.

I have been working on repairing it with pieces from an F-1 rear fender, a doorskin and the taillight surround generously provided by Bobj49f2. I think I got it looking about right, thought I would see what you guys think before I put it together permanently.

I plan on flanging everything and using panel adhesive to put it together since it's not structural and I don't want to try to weld that much sheetmetal.

Looks good. Except I believe that Panel truck quarter had a rolled edge in the wheel well area, rolled over a steel rod, and the same area in the pick up fenders is flanged.

Actually they are the other way around. There is a rolled flange on the panel.I took the rod out of the edge of the pickup fender and hammered in the flange to approximate what is on the panel. The flange connects to the inner fender along the top of the wheel opening. I still have to remake the inner flange.

I have to repair the top of the wheel opening on the passenger side where it's rusted out too, but now I know how to proceed. The end is nearly in sight for the sheetmetal repair

Damn Ilya, don't be such a perfectionist. I think it looks great. I doubt 99.99% of the general population would know it's not 100% exact but I guess if he's going to take it to a show that Ilya is going to it better be 100%.

I will tell you this, it sure looks a heck of a lot better than it did. Very good job.

Panelman, you know I'm just giving you a hard time, right?

I know, Bob. I'll be the first one to admit that I couldn't even come close to doing the kind of patching work that Gary did on his Panel.

I'm just pointing out the difference for future users that may search for this topic. I didn't know the difference myself until I was speaking with another semi-local guy with a 51 Panel that just repaired both quarters by using F1 fender areas. He's the one that told me about the differences.
