You won't always get an error code for a coil pack if it is intermittnt. They will short out when they are cool and have moisture on them and work fine once they get warmed up and the moisture dries off. Once it gets bad enough to short all the time, the error code will show up.
The other thing you might have is a slight vacuum leak form a deteriorated hose. They are usually worse at idle.

Did you plug in a scanner like I suggested? You said errors, what were the codes?
Spark plugs need to be changed at or before 100K, if that wasn't done, the car will start to run as you described. I had to change mine at 97K due to poor idle. Check all the EVAP lines by the fuel tank and check the fuel filler hose under the car for cracks. I don't think you have an IAC that needs to be cleaned. Other experts can tell you when Ford stopped putting those on, I think 04 was the last year. All dash lights will illuminate before you start the car and go off unless you have a problem.
Since you don't know the history and you're in the desert, change the fuel and air filters and spark plugs (the long terrible ones?) and see if that makes a difference. If you still have the problem, we can help chase it down. Then I suggest you change all of your fluids for your own peace of mind.
