Yeah, no matter what I do it lists the part for a 6.2. I guess I'll call a Ford dealer and see what the correct part number is.

I just got back from the dealer, I was correct when I listed the lower "Bowl caps part number is #9G270 and if your not careful the Water - Fuel sensor can be broken also. That part number is #9T321. They where priced at $64.25 and $29.65 respectively.

I made them let me watch as they repaired the cap and I believe I twisted it the wrong way. If you read the manual it says Counter Clockwise which when looking from underneath is to the Left however that is not correct. It must of meant from looking above. The easiest way to state the above is look at the tab on the cap. It needs to go down and around the fuel pumps tab. This should be twisted to the back rear tires when looking at it from below. DO NOT TWIST TOWARD THE RUNNING BOARDS. Twist toward the rear end. Lesson learned.

Also on side note be careful, they wanted to replace the whole fuel pump when I knew without a doubt all that needed to be replaced was the cap "bowl". In there defence they said that, as a warning if they had trouble getting the overtighted cap off.

It can't be over tightened.
There is a stop in the lower bowl (cap) that prevents that.
The plastic socket will simply break which is what you experienced.

Didn't realize the tab would give.
I stand corrected and learned something new.

Sorry to drag up such an old thread... But mine broke off yesterday while doing a filter change, any hints or tips on how to remove what is left of the bowl?

Strap wrench.

Because of threads like this, I used both a strap wrench & the socket to get it started turning. After it started turning, I used just the socket. I also bought a spare cap/bowl.

The strap wrench theory isn't working out too well... The plastic just keeps breaking and cracking. I'm afraid if I keep at it, its gonna break the threads underneath?

gorilla glue a couple of large nuts/bolts that you can grab onto to remove it by hand... About the only thing I can think of if the strap wrench is breaking it.

This particular bit of maintenance sucks... and there is certainly a need to have a spare on hand.

I always grease the o ring and threads with vaseline. Those plastic threads like to stick together.

Thanks for all the advice, i did end up getting it off. It pretty much crumbled apart and fell to pieces. I think the Las Vegas heat may have played hell on that one. Stealership has one in stock, won't be open until Tuesday though
