Talking Borg Warner CPS!

Yesterday while doing some reading I saw a guy who tested 15+ CPS models. He said the best results (other than factory black CPS) were a CPS from Borg Warner.

I looked it up. It costs $25 and can be had from o'reilly's. Today I picked one up and swapped it for my CPS.
Once I verified that mine was a grey started the swap. I wasnt going to touch it if it was black.

The BW CPS was noticeably larger than the grey OEM one. So much so that I wasnt sure it would fit! But it fit perfectly.

Got the BW in and it was an IMMEDIATE difference. The idle is much smoother now. Before it was inconsistent, about 100-200 variation in idle speed. Not much, just enough to be noticeable. That seems to be all gone now. This new CPS only went in today, so I will be on the look out for changes in the truck, but so far I am pleased! The grey is in the glove box along with a 10mm ratchet just in case.

I will report back in a few days with more results.

Drive around with the wipers on. That seems to be one of their downfalls. The wipers interfere with the CPS signal somehow.

So do you have any before and after perdel readings? Any crude tests to determine the magnet strength between the two?

Nope. Thats the only problem... I dont have an AE.. But I know someone who does and he might give this thing a try too.

EDIT: I just went out and drove around for a bit and did a few WOT runs. I observed no interference from the wipers on any speed setting. Perhaps this is a revised BW product or at some point Ford corrected the interference. But I didnt notice any interference. I will also keep an eye out for that.

Guess you saw the info on the diesel stop: Were 7.3 PSDs underspec'd from the factory? - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

I stocked up with two of the original CPS's from Bob when he had them in stock.

Thanks tdpower. I haven't visited that forum in a while. Guess I have a new Borg Warner cps in my future.
I changed from a gray to a new IH blue a couple of months ago, no difference.

Did yours almost seem like it had a small lope at idle Trey? Mine seems to and it seemed worse after I put a new cps when the engine was out. Found a black one in some parts I had but not sure if its motorcraft. Need to look closer at it. The BW may be worth a shot.

YES! Thats a great way of describing it!

I kinda threw it in the back of my head because I didnt want it to be injectors or HPOP or something. Turns out it was just a CPS.

Good find. I took my truck in for minor repair once and they changed my CPS and I was pissed. They also said they couldn't find the old one. Never again. Plus I paid $300.oo for that one when I broke down in Las Vegas one time thinking that was the problem.
I'll have to see if this new find is worth it also, and if it lasts.

One reason I love living in CA. When ever I go into a shop I say "I want all my parts back." By law they have to give me anything they take off. And if I dont get it back then they cant charge me for replacing it, and if they replaced it anyway, they get in trouble and you dont pay a cent.
