Hi

I have been working a bit on the design of the kph scale and here is how it look like today.

Itīs hard to fit 34 letters instead of 19. Miles need 19 digit and kph needs 34 digit..... so I solved it making odd numbers half the size.

What do you al think about this.

Ps:the color is a little bit wrong on the picture.Ds

That design looks good to me, and judging from the response so far it looks like you could sell a few of those to others and recoup your development costs as well. So is your prototype an actual part or is it a rendering? You have piqued my interest now, I know a few local companies that do laser and/or waterjet cutting that would do a nice job on a piece like that. A bit of silkscreening and you have a beautiful, OEM-style part.

Hie you all

Itīs a 3D Cad sheetmetal part in ProE Wildfire 5.

I dont have anyone (that I know of that can do the silke screening) but my plan way to make one scale whitout the numbers, one scale with the numbers cut out, paint the numbers use the second scale as a template ontop of the one without the number cutouts. Then glu them back onto the first scale whitout the numbers cutout. Then I can even replicate the relief style than the OEM has but whitout the expensive stamping tools.....

But thatīs acctually a good idea using screening instead ??? I will check that out.

Another option would be to use the first "scale without numbers" and have the numbers laser-etched onto it.

CharlieLed

Is it possible to laser-etch in different colors.

Lets say we paint the sheet metal black...then what???

Sounds interesting

If you paint the face black and then cover it with a sheet of film then laser etch through the film into the metal you will then have a back background with a "metal-colored" number. If you use aluminum then this contrast could look very interesting. If the metal-on-black doesn't look as good as you might like then you could paint the numbers before removing the film. This would give you very crisp lines...you could even add a little phosflorescence (sp?) to the paint to get that glow-in-the-dark effect.

I love the idea with the phosflorescence ink. Must check if someone can do it via the laser etching or the screening......

How do you say in the states....?????

you put so many strange (good) ideas into my head)

I used to do commercial silk screening. If you check with local artists and T-Shirt printers, they can point you to someone who can make a screen economically. It is a very simple process and the actually screening is something you can do without a lot of practice, or special tools.

I do quite a bit of casting and molding using various materials. One of the larger vendors for these materials is Smooth-On...they have a product that is a flourescent additive for resins (should work on clear enamels too) called Ignite. This product is intended for use under a black light so I don't know how well it would work for just a regular white light application. Phosphorescent paint will retain light energy and glow for some period of time after the light is removed...I found a supplier after a short web search (Zinc Sulfide Luminous Products.) I am sure there are many more throughout the world.
