Electric fan CFM

Hey guys I asked this in the 87-96 F series truck fourm and cant seem to get any good help. I have a 16 inch S blade electric fan that can do 2500-3000 CFM. I have a 302 in a 92 f150. I want to know if this 16 inch fan will cool the motor as good as the fan thats in it now or do I need another fan or what? Any help would be great.

A quick search on Flex-a-lite shows the 97 and up specific fans as moving 5500 cfm in a dual fan configuration. I would expect your truck would require the same. However, if you're not towing heavy, I doubt that you'd have trouble with the fan you have.

so if i added another 16 inch fan i should be ok no mater what i do with the truck. I would only need to customize some sort of shroud for it.

2 of those fans would definitely keep ya cool all around. Fab up a simple rectangular sheet metal shroud would probably be the cheapest/easiest route.

Well i have a buddy of mine with a simliar truck and has access to a sheetmetal shop so i could have him make me a simple shourd. A flange to screw around the radator and what not. Come off maybe an inch or two? Or do I need something similar to the plastic ones? I notice the dual fans with the shroud is just basicly blocking the bare radiator spots were the fans are not.

All of the dual kits I've seen have either sheet metal or aluminum shrouds that mount the fans an inch or 2 behind the radiator. The idea is to have it closed around the fans so they are pulling across the larger, square surface area, rather than the round area of the fan itself.

I'm just not a fan of the aftermarket- had em, tried em, had toubles....OEM IMHO outflows all of them......even going back to the late 90's, Crown Vics/Cougars....all had e-fans and worked well.

I would go after an OEM e fan but I already have a fan lying around so its use it or chuck it and I dont want to chuck it so thats why I deceided to use this type of fan.

You can use the aftermarket fan WITH your OEM fan, as a helper.

If you've ever heard to an OEM mechanical fan engage with the thermal clutch, it's pretty obvious that it pushes a lot more air than any aftermarket electric fans, and even some OEM electric fans.

Yea Im sure that is true but it also takes power away from the underpowered 302. Im trying to save some energy on the motor and help out as much as i can and ive read how much this helps

...well, depending on the year 302, I can relate to under-powered, but, alot of these write-ups are well, pushed a little on creativity let's say, and in terms of sucking up power, there really is nothing much more efficient than a properly working fan clutch......with the new series engines, they OEM's are trying to get every last ounce of MPGs they can...& the e-fans are good for 1 MPG.

Its a 92. I have had this with a few other fourms on a few diffrent vehicales and most people hate e fans and I get it but id rather take my chances if it means I can get more power out of my truck and make it seem faster then it is.

It's been proven to improve economy time and again, so I say go for it. The amperage draw, and subsequent parasitic loss from the alternator, doesn't outweigh the sheer power it takes to turn the mechanical fan.
