F550 Build

Figured I would share my F550 build with you guys.
The truck is a 99 F550 7.3, 6 speed, 4wd Flat bed Dump. 2 owner. It is just a plain jane XL but does have A/C;Sweet. I bought the truck after it had sat for 4 years.

So far after i towed it home....
-Cleaned 2 garbage bags worth of mouse pissed stuff from the cab.
-Removed the seat, floor mat and headliner
-Power washed the rubber mat and cab floor
-Thru the old headliner in the garbage
-Shampooed the "new" tweed seat
-Sanded and Galvanized the floor
-Temporarily put the floor mat and seat in.
-Put 2 new batteries in
-Degreased the engine and chassis, power washed all the loose rust off
-Got the dump hoist working(solenoid, batter cable ends, rewire the controller).
-Stripped the old flat bed down and found the cross members were paper thin.So stripped everything off down to the dump hoist frame.
-Stared reconstructing the flat bed this week

On to some pics
Day I bought it

After a clean up

Everything you see in the pic other than the cooler and creeper were in the cab

Nasty old head liner

Was semi ambitious today. Got the nose and doors off. Got every thing unhooked that I could to pull the cab. Just left the essentials to drive it to the other side of the garage. had it running for about 10 seconds and died. now it will not start due to lack of HOP. Went to start the tractor to tow it and that will not start -cussjust one of those days
O. And noticed 3 borken bolts in the drivers side manifold:backoff

No real progress to speak on the truck.
BUT I just ordered 11 marker lights for the body.
200 self taping decking screws.
A Gallon of POR 15
1 Gallon of Valspar Gloss black
600lbs of sand.

Once I get the rear axle out, repaired and back in along with the motor/trans/t-case out. I can go ahead and sandblast the frame/bed and paint it.

Well I go the axle back together and back in the truck, just in time to push it out of the way for a October snow storm. Hopefully it warms up so I can powerwash, sandblast and paint the chassis

Well today I pulled the t-case/trans and engine apart.

And found this . Yes, those splines are supposed to be square cut

Yesterday i sandblasted and today i painted.

I used 900lbs of sand for the blasting.

used a gallon of POR 15 as a Base coat. Then a gallon of TSC LO-Glare black on the frame and a quart of TSC Gloss black on the bed

Not a lot of progress. Just a lot of money spent. Drilled out the 3 broken exhaust manifold bolts and helicoid them. Ordered and picked up the new up-pipes, donuts, bolts, manifold bolts, oil pan for a tune of $485.

loaded the trans and t-case in the ranger to drop of at the trans shop tomorrow to get a $1500 bill

Once I get those back I can put a new clutch on and put everything back in the truck

Well I got the old pan off and found out why it was leaking oil. The 99+ 7.3 use a dipstick tube "nut" that gets threaded thru the pan and sealed w a O ring. Well my o ring was in the bottom of the pan and the nut was all distorted.

The New pan came with a new "nut" and O ring. The pan got completely sanded to bare then 2 coats of POR15. The old pan had its share of rust. then it got put on with the IH NASTY gray RTV.

I also pulled the motor mount, cleaned the block and heads and gave them a shot of some fresh hi temp black.

I also decided to pull all the accessories and sandblast the cast aluminum brackets. To keep them from corroding I shot them in some hi temp Ford gray.
The Water pump inlet tube wasn't so great looking so I took that off, sandblasted and painted that too.

Right now I am replacing the rear main and LPOP. Have the rear main, but LPOP will be her in the am/

Then I will have to drain the heads and replace the Injectors with some I got from Rosewood Diesel.

The trans is at the trans shop getting redone with A LOT of new parts(Main shaft, Input shaft, bearings, seals, syncros, T-case input shaft)

And I am still trying to decide on which clutch I want to get

O, I also sandblasted the Exhaust mainifold and painted them w EASTWOODS hi temp manifold paint.
Picked up a new pair of Up-pipes since mine had wear marks in the and donuts. Also painted them w the hi temp paint.

Pulled the turbo and did away with the EPBV and the actuator in the pedestal. The resealed everything up with new o-rings
