Smile Need a little advice

Im starting to work on an old truck my dad gave me. It's a '91 F-250 with the 7.3. The first issue I have to address, is the weird "woosh woosh woosh" sound out of the tail pipe, which Im told is a burnt exhaust valve. I have a spare engine, so that shouldn't be an issue. But I am open to advice on this as well.

Also, I want to list it. What is the easiest way to lift one of these trucks with the split D44 front axle ? I'm wanting to run 37x12.50's on it.

Next, when my dad stopped messing with it, it was in the middle of an auto to manual swap. I just want to find another Auto trans for it, and sell this 5 speed I have. The 5 speed came out of a '91 F-SuperDuty. If Im missing any small parts to put it back together, where is the best place to find these ?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give !

Congats on the new truck and welcome to the forum! For engine questions you'll get better response down in the 6.9/7.3 IDI section under diesels. There was a thread about the exhaust noise recently, mine does that and I just ignore it for now. You should have a Dana 50 BTW

Light duty 250s had the d44 front with 8lug wheels. Not sure if the diesel had that option though. Do you have a free flowing exhaust. My 93 non turbo 7.3 with 4" straight exhaust and tweaked pump/timing sounded badass from the exhaust (way different then a gasjob).
The ttb frontend isn't too bad to lift. And really you don't even need to lift it. I've put 40s on my 87 truck a number of times with no lift. I'd say get a cheap 3" body lift and call it good. Roll or cut the front fenders to fit.

Not eaisily, the 10.25 or Dana 70 already in the F250 is plenty strong.

It has the 10.25, with 3.55 gears.

Since I got two trucks out of this deal (will add pics tomorrow). Im thinking of selling off parts from one to fix the other. Im sure the ZF 5 speed and Dana 80 has to have some value to someone. I just need to find a good working E4OD.

By the way, is there any power to be had by cranking the injector pump wide open ?

I wouldn't go too wild with the IP, if your EGTs get too high you can burn a hole in a piston. There is some gains to be had by turning it up slightly, along with a free flowing exhaust.

Excuse my newbie questions. I went from a 2004 Rubicon to this. So Im learning. But for a freebie truck, bad trans or not, its not too bad.

Your ZF 5 Speed transmission for the diesel should sell easy for some good coin. Have our ZF 6x2 for the small block gas job for sale on Craigslist for along time no offers above $250 had 10 phone calls looking for a 4x4; big block or the diesel.

Yeah, a diesel 4x4 ZF5 will definitely sell well. The D80 has an oddball 10 on 7.25" lug pattern, and will be a tougher sell. The disk brakes on it are nice, but don't have any provision for a park brake, so it presents problems when trying to swap it into anything...
