Did the USB2 "mod" today

Wow, that took like 15 minutes, super easy to do, and now I have my USB stick with my entire iTunes library in my glove box. This is cool!
Has anybody else done it?

Yes, lots of people. I have MOST of the parts to do it, but I'm missing one. Not that it matters because I can't find them since we moved this summer. I need to reorder them so I can do this myself...soon.

Juneau, what parts are you referring to? All I needed was the right USB cable.
Mine, btw, fit right in with no trimming.

I would have to look at the thread again. If I remember correctly, there is an adapter to go to the module and a cable required. Plus, I have an iPod, so I need two adapters. What cable did you get/from where?

Juneau, here is the cable I got:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It took a few weeks to get, but it works perfectly. Almost like made for this. No trimming needed as others have reported, it fits right in as is.
This cable is all I needed to do the "mod", besides a 7mm socket and ratchet.

Did mine yesterday, about 15 min also. I had a cable from one of our old cell phones and I just ran it into my glovebox for now. So now I just need a female to female connector to connect the USB to the Ipod USB and I'm golden. Radio Shack didn't have anything, guess I gotta get one online somewhere.

No, my truck is 2 weeks old, a 2012.
Basically, the syncmodule under the dash has two USB connectors: one USB1 that connects to the existing plug in the dash. And then there is another one (that one being USB2) right next to it, empty. The "mod" is routing a cable from that port into the glove compartment, now you have your ipod or USB stick or HDD out of sight.

Can't wait? LOL. I am the same way.
I second juneau, Monoprice is a good place also, I remember looking there though and not finding a cable / adapter. I think the best solution is still that cable from ebay, it fits without trimming and no adapter is needed. It's the cleanest solution, and for $8 shipped? It did take about 2 weeks though ....

Well, it will be about the same amount of time either way. I got 2 adapters for $2.74 shipped, I already had the cable. I actually had 2 with the mini-USB end somehow. The cable is run into the glovebox, and now I just have to wait until the adapter arrives. I can just keep my Ipod touch plugged into the dash face for now, no biggie. Thanks for the Amazon link, can't rep until I spread some love so I owe ya some! Thank you also Brad ol' buddy! And curse those rotten Rangers!!! lmao

I bought a USB kit from Walmart that had all I needed to do the mod. The kit comes with a retractable cable as well as the adapters needed.
I keep a flash drive connected in the glovebox.
