Question P1299

I've read all the solutions that were posted in the forum (I think) about this code. They are the same on mine. The only thing that I did was to change the thermostat after 158,000 miles on the engine. One question is, when tempture reaches the thermostat setting, my is 192 degress and starts flowing on the top hose you can fill the actual flow. The flow that I get especially when I squeeze the hose is more like it's squeezing by in a bunch of small gulps, and when I really clamp down on it, it almost fills like I stopped the flow. Could this be because of the impeller gone bad? I went and checked the water pump for leaks none at all and checked it for movement, solid as a rock. Should I just replace it, autozone has a new one for only $39.99 for my model 2003 F150 4.6 L Crewcab, auto trans 2wd,ac ect. Any other ideas then what I read ?

Dude, you're in the wrong forum- go to the one for the year of your truck.

Just a few thoughts

I don't know much about your truck, but there are some threads about 3.8/4.2 L v-6 and this code

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ode-p1299.html

I know that those are other engines, but they mention
- 'burping' to get air out
- possible false reading due to a bad ground.

It won't hurt to change your water pump, but it might not help.

Can you get one of those IR non contact thermometers and check the temps at various spots?

Also, on my mopar, I had a strange coolant issue due to a leak in the radiator tank. System wouldn't hold pressure. You can get a pressure tester from a lot of auto stores (O'reillys and so on) It's a free deal, but they usually write it up as a sale and cancel it when you bring it back.

Good luck,

hj

Sounds like air in the system. run it for awhile with the cap off to see if you are getting bubbles in the coolant.

Well I no longer have that problem any more. Due to someone else just got in front of my son while he was driving it and bang totaled it. Truck served me well 168,000 miles. My heart felt like crap when I saw it at the tow truck place but the family was ok and everyone else .
