whatever you do, don't break the mirrors!!!

a couple weeks ago in the middle of no where I pulled off the road to shoot a coyote. when I got back in the truck I failed to see that I pulled up next to one of those metal road reflectors that stick up. this caused me to brush the top of it with my right tow mirror causing the bottom the plastic housing to break. in case you ever wondered where the sensor is for the temperature gauge its in the right mirror, I found this out when I unplugged a wire that was now dangling out the bottom of the housing.

anyways I have brushed things in the past with these mirrors but its been very minor as they stick out a long ways. called up my local dealer and with repair shop discount its $460 to replace the mirror, which is a great price as they go for over $600 on ebay. ouch thats expensive.

Yep, these mirrors are expensive, I had a similar issue on my last truck. At the time, Partsguyed.com was able to get me a much better price than my dealer for a direct Ford replacement part. It was very easy to actually replace when I did get the part.

Several years ago I broke the passenger one on my 01 SD. I found a new aftermarket for a lot less on-line. Might be too early for aftermarket ones.

Yes, these are expensive.
I've always thought the left was around $1,100 and the right was around $1,200.
I guess those prices are MSRP.

Sorry ! If you did get the coyote it sure was an expensive animal. It seems all replacement parts for these trucks are expensive. If you had hit it with more surface it may have folded like it was designed to do.
