Little update, I got the cam and parts in but I'm havin a GREAT time tryin to get the dizzy out. I soaked it in wd40, I'm pickin up some PB blaster on my home from work tomorrow and we'll see where she goes from there.
Yuck, Mine was sticky too. Set it up after rebuild and take it for a blast to test and wouldnt shift when you get back to the shed for fine adjustments. As soon as you tightened the bracket up fully it would lock up. PITA! Broke dizzy cap tabs before I learnt that. Cant get to rough as you dont want to damage the thing.
Ok, let the dist soak in WD overnight, hit it side to side with a rubber mallot and boom came right out, got the old cam and lifters out no problem, but my valves and springs DO NOT wanna move -_- I rented the valve compressor tool from advance auto and I kinda bent it (I guess it's a cheapo one) so I'm gonna go get a better one tomorrow. Are there any 'tricks' I should know about? It's seems pretty straight forward to me.
another thing to have handy is a magnet to catch the locks when they finally do loose their grip - especially handy if doing the spring change in chassis. just remember to tap the spring retainer on alternating sides to 'walk' them off those stubborn locks.
Thanks buddy but i got em off, I used a 'homemade' valve compressor with a big c-clamp and a socket taped to it, I broke the locks loose then went back and removed how the should've came off the first time!! haha
Try polishing the surfaces on the dizzy a little (worked for me) and I wouldnt use anti-sieze as it has minute metallic particles in it. Maybe a little ok, but still not comfortable with it if it gets to the inside of engine.
