Ok folks, educate me please! 😁

I’ve got a LWB 1996 F-150 with the 4.9L I-6 mated to a 5 speed transmission. I see a lot of posts where people use a number/letter combination to describe the transmission they have. Where would I be able to find which one I have? I’m sure it’s a simple task, but i’m new to the scene. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

CJ

You have the Mazda M5OD, that was the only manual trans used in this vintage 1/2 ton.

The sticker inside your door should have a transmission code and from that it's pretty easy to look up unless the transmission has been changed. The transmission itself will have a plate on it which should say but also bolt count tell you a lot.

If it's a 5 speed manual it's probably the Mazda M5OD-R2

The majority of the number codes you see are for the different automatic transmissions Ford used in the different trucks over the years. Not applicable to you if it's manual transmission.

Im not sure what you mean by that statement. Over the years you could have had a T18, NP435, M5OD, ZF5 or SROD. I might have missed some in my list but those are all manual transmissions.
