To POR or not to POR.....

I am putting POR 15 on my frame and chassis parts, but I have a question for all you UN--amateurs out their...lol. I am wanting to put POR on my springs, but should I put it on the springs with OR without taking them apart? If I take them apart and POR each individual spring will it affect the springs when I put them back together? I just want to do it right the first time through. Thanks in advance.

I can't imagine it being a problem on how it would ride.I would think it's the proper way to do it right, you could always spray the leaves with silicone before you put the stacks back together.

I took my springs apart before painting them with the POR 15. It didnt affect the springs at reassembly.

I painted my springs individually with POR before assembly on my 48. It makes absolutely no difference at all. Some may tell you it affects how they work but it doesn't...

I POR-15 my springs when they are apart and then spray them with EZ-Spray graphite based paint (available at any tractor/ag supply place for cheap). They glide like a baby after that. Good luck.

P.S. Make sure if you disassemble a spring pack you do so correctly or it can seriously injure or kill you. There are many good explanations of the procedure here on FTE if you don't know. Also, make sure you reinstall the spring clamps...

Thanks teardropty........I've never disassembled a spring pack either...lol. Can you point me in the right direction or toward another thread here on FTE that would explain the "RIGHT" and "SAFE" procedure?

Spring Disassembly

I used four adjustable "C" clamps to hold the spring assembly together as I loosened off the center bolt; then gradually backed off the clamps. Used reverse method to re-assemble.

No problem..... here is a fine link https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...placement.html

Scroll part way down and follow Mr. Axracer's advice. I have had spring packs with very little punch but I have had packs that stored a lot of energy. Just be safe and slow. Good luck.

No problem fastphil, I hate seeing one legged Ford trucks owners.... It's tough to push the clutch in. Just passing along the great mojo found on this board. There is truly a wealth of information on this site. I personally want to thank all those that helped me throughout my journey with my trucks...
