need to look up a ford 300 6 cylinder serial #

I need to find a web site that will tell me more information on this engine. It did not come out of a truck it was marinized for a boat I believe it is reverse or right hand rotation. Is there any website that I can do a search on for an answer?

300 six

Sir , I was in the marine repair business for 35 years, the only 2 names that I can think of are Interceptor marine and Dearborn marine. If this engine is right hand rotation the pistons have to be reversed on the connecting rods and the front and rear crankshaft seals must be replaced. That is if you want to convert it to left rotation. Was there any names on the manifold or cooling system hardware? Kenny

Kenny I am not looking to change it over I am actually rebuilding this one but the cam is a little worn and and will be ground at the shop the firing order on the engine is 1,4,2,6,3,5. So clear this up for me the cam, distributor gear & starter have to be reversed too right??? According to a few people I talked they clamed that the transmission reduction gear was changed to make it turn backwards I disagree. If it is firing differant then the engine has to be set up for that. There are no records by ford that they ever made a reverse rotation straight 6. Unless seamaster the ppl who marinized these engines back in the late 60s then were bought out by osco I have checked with both with no luck at all. Would like to find a spare cam for it if I can.

Do you have a starter for it? You would need an entirely different starter as it would need a Bendix set up for the opposite rotation, and the field would be wired differently.
I didn't think about the distributor, but yes distributor, oil pump (maybe, unless the distributor rotation ends up being the same), cam, starter, and possibly other stuff too.
Did they use a chain or gear drive on the cam?

marine engine

Sir, Is this a single or dual engine boat ? If you need to keep the (RH)rotation there is another way. Since standard (LH) is easier to work with,Volvo inboard marine engines used a marine clutch that is made to operate either left or right output by connecting the shift cable accordingly, and are available in several ratios ,it has the standard 6 bolt (SAE) marine pattern and will replace the Borg Warner or any other drive. Where are you located ? Kenny

Just curious. Why would anyone want to make an engine rotate backwards for marine use? Isn't it simpler to make a prop with reverse pitch?

That prop would have reverse pitch, usually it's done so the boat is more stable. If both engines are spinning one way, there is more of a tendency to roll towards one side.

On a twin screw (2) engines it propels the boat straighter one runs right one runs left it is they have always done it but with engines this old can be very confusing
