F150 LED turn signals and flasher relay?

I am getting ready to switch out the turn signal bulbs in my 2012 F150 to LED bulbs. I know on my previous truck (2006) I had to switch out the turn signal relay so the turn signal lights would not fast flash. On my 2012 it sounds like the flasher unit is up high in the dash board behind the instrument panel and I can't see it.

Has anyone else located it and have tips on how to access it easily? I have seen on other forums the talk of there not being a flasher relay and being computer controled, but there is one listed on Ford parts for the 2011 and 2012 F150s.

If anyone has any info or tips that would be great. I plan to list any info, pics or tips I gather from my experience to help anyone else wanting to do same mod.

The flashing is controlled by the computer not a traditional flasher relay. When I changed mine on my 2010 All I did was changed to the LED's. I also have LED's on my 20' trailer and there has never been any changes in flashing speed before or after. What you hear is a speaker that is up under the dash. If you listen the key reminder, door reminder, etc sounds also come from the same place.

You need to use LEDs with load resistors to emulate a standard bulb.

I put LED bulbs in to replace my turn signal bulbs today. After replacing the front bulbs the flasher work as normal. After switching the rear bulbs to LED the flasher flashes at a quicker rate. They may still be useable at the quicker flash rate, will see tonight when it gets dark. I guess I am going to have to get some resistors if I want them to flash at a normal rate. Not really sure if I feel comfortable with resistors since I have heard bad things about them.

I am still puzzled why there is a flasher relay listed on ford parts sites for the 2011 and 2012 F150s if they are said to be computer controled.

I completed the project of LED turn signals. I used 3ohm resistors (one on each side) at the tail lights to make the turn signals flash at a normal rate. I used 3ohm resistors instead of 6ohm because there is a total of three LED turn signal bulbs(one in front, two at rear) on each side of the truck. The resistors are hooked into the black and the brown/grey wires. It took me some time to determine if the brown/grey wire or the bright colored yellow/green(drivers side) or purple/? (passanger side) was the turn signal wire.

The resistors came on mounting plate so I used 3M double sided foam tape to stick the mounting plates to the inside of the tail light well.

Make sure your wire taps get thru the wire insulation because that also happened to me, thought i had a connection when I didn't. Hope this thread helps someone else out wanting to do this mod. Really was easy after knowing what all needs done to complete.

LED Hyper flash

I just replaced the tail light on my 2014 F150. I put on LEDs. I put them on Thursday morning, Friday night they started hyper flashing. The lights came with resistor's. They only flash fast when the lights are turned on. They blink fine when they're off.
