If I'm not mistaken, replacing the stock snorkel with a 3in PVC pipe basically is the Gotts mod. So, not sure how it is you own version, but regardless, it works. That exactly what I did to mine. Whether or not you'll notice any kind of performance is up in the air, but hey, it's cheap so why not right?

I haven't driven it yet so I'll let you know on the any difference, I said my version because everyone I've seen there using fernco's and stuff like that but I used thick wall pipe so all I had to do is put the pipe in....

a cold air or JLA air intake doesn't do much for these trucks I am told... is this true? The gotts mod I read up on is suppose to be 13 HP dyno proven...

I don't see how this could add 13 hp in any way what so ever. It might make the truck a little more responsive, but these trucks have a pretty free flowing system already.

It is pretty free flowing except right at the intake spot where it narrows down so much. Its creates a big choke point at the spot you need air the most. The Gotts mod I don't think would add 13hp but does certainly improve the running of the truck.

I did the GOTTS mod last summer. 13hp? No way. More responsive and a little less starved above 3500rpm? Sure.

Found the post where I read that, a guy named Bill Cohron dyno'd it and it was 7-8 HP with the DWV mod, which is actually the real name for it and the HP was seen in the higher RPM range.

Bill Cohron is the owner of Power Hungry Performance. Good guy that build great tunes off of the Edge platform.

So it is very possible that those numbers yield to be true coming from him. I don't know where I got 13 HP from maybe it was from those K&N intake kits, either way 7-8 is a nice gain.

I've heard that the JLA RAI kit for these truck can add more power, and better performance in the upper RPM range as well. Wondering how true this is.

Bill has proof, but not every truck will yield the same results. It's possible to see those gains I suppose, but 7+ hp at 4000rpm isn't that useable on a daily basis, at least for me.

I did this last summer except I used a piece of 4" ABS corrugated drain pipe and a snap adapter. Did not gain any mileage or performance. The only gain we'd get with this mod is at near or at WOT when the engine needs air. Engine sounds a little better though.

I ended up 'returning to stock'

I drove it today, I don't know about HP gains but it did definitely seem to be more responsive. For a few dollar mod I think it's worth doing...

Yeah I just did this mod today using the same method you did. I drove it and at about 45 mph to 60 passing someone it seemed to pick up a lot better, and it did seem a touch more responsive.
