oil smell

Sometimes when I stop my truck, I smell oil. Kind of like when oil drips on the exhaust. I cant see where its leaking onto the ground at all. Only smell it occasionally and always when the truck is warmed up. Any ideas?

thanks

When I smell that in traffic I look around and it never fails, a GM product.

Does she use/loose much oil between changes?

It's most likely going to be your valve cover gaskets. These sit perfectly so that when they leak, they drip onto your exhaust manifolds, hence the burning oil smell.

I looked at the engine and the drivers side is clean and dry but the passenger side is oily...kind of like a combination of dirt and oil...its all over the valve cover, not just on the side.

If its just the valve cover leaking, I am okay with that but I want to make sure it isnt anything more serious. Is there anything that it could be besides teh valve cover. the truck runs great and there is real good oil pressure.

thanks

I would say you are dealing with a valve cover oil leak which is fairly common. If you are smelling it burning then its coming out above the exhaust manifolds. No worrys drive her till you get sick of the smell and then have her fixed..

I got to the bottom of the smell.... its a leaking power steering hose and/or pump. I crawled into the engine compartment and noticed it.

Gonna clean up the hose and then see if its just the hose or if the pump is toast...

thanks for all the advice..I do appreciate it.
