Thats what I'm sayin, I'm not sure what my gear is, but I'm pretty sure its not 4.10s, so my RPM should be lower at 55 then you are at 60. Somethin goofy is goin on, I think it may be a bad/missaligned MLPS or something, gotta pull the codes and climb unter there this weekend. Its not a daily driver so its not a huge thing.

My 97 efi gets 11-13 city 13-16 hwy. That is a very light foot and 60-62mph. Winter fuel is the 11 mostly 12-12.5 city. Again I drive very easy. 1997 Ford F250 super cab,auto,3:55 LS,short box with topper.

Why not?

Even when I was building high HP BBC's with their awful 4.00x4.25 B/S I was envious of the 460's 3.86x4.36. I don't think most folks understand how Stroke effects efficiancy at rpm. While a long stroke can give you a nice full burn slowly it's miserable at quick burn. The 460 B/S is nearly perfect for an all duty engine. It can rev freely (with better heads) and still give a nice broad piston to burn the fuel. My best mpg with an equally equipt 454 is 9. That was a highly tuned motor that I personally brought up from 7. The best EFI 454 I've seen was 12.

The reason I started this thread is.... I've been wanting to build a toy/driver. I've been in the 300/4.9 threads, and the 302/5.0 351/5.8 threads. So far i've seen nothing about these that leads me to believe that in a 3800 lb shortbed an EFI 460-472 with aluminum heads won't deliver equal fuel economy and vastly better performace than the smaller engines with O/D and 2.73-3.08 rear gears. Throw a centrifugal charger on like Brads and

I noticed with those gears mine did much better below 60 if I turned O/D off. I got 16 once on a trip through Neb like that. I didn't include those #'s because the rest of the nation is years ahead of some states in Highway safety and allows much more sensable limits. I got 14 in O/D at 75mph. Thats tailgate down (Yeah I know... Mythbusters said it don't matter) and cruise control off.

Most people don't think going from 7 to 10 mpg is much, but it's over a 40% increase.

Quite an improvement!

If my f350 would get 13mpg I would have to change its name from "commuter" to "hybrid"

that's massive!
@ $3.38 per gallon/15k mile per year/10 yr ownership duration (and if fuel didn't go up within 10 yrs....yeah right lol)
its the difference of paying roughly 72 grand in fuel vs 50 grand.
you would have saved an astonishing $21,729!!!! (again, that's not counting increased fuel prices during your 10 yr ownership duration.)

how you boys afford to run 460's at these fuel prices still, i just don't understand.you can't possibly be using them all the time anymore?
don't get me wrong,im sure they're great, fun and powerful engines, that make an old school idi diesel like mine for example, look like a total dog (i had a built up 400 years ago that did that with ease,on the cheap! so i know that doesn't take much.) but holy crap,72-75 grand in fuel, for a 10 yr ownership duration.ouch guys.
........
lets go pats!!!!!!

I bought it new.
Diesel wasn't really a viable option for me back then.

Gas was cheap(er) work was good.
I was younger and MUCH less pragmatic. lol...

Think about how much money I've spent on gasoline since 1987!
There are 380,000 on the clock now.

Anyone know if this guy is a member or who built the truck? Suposedly a GT37 powerstroke turbo remote mounted.

I don't did the stacks but it looks like here he's getting to 60 in around 6 seconds. Thats pretty quick for a eclb.

FORDF250HDXLT I drive mine everyday in the winter and on days I have sales calls. Other than that I'm on my motorcycle. Think about it I just changed the original tires last year, very first tune up, first set of shocks, first coolant flush all last year. All I do is oil changes and fuel. Cheap insurance. I do tow my boat with it. I pull my boat with it. I love my truck it still looks new. My friends with new trucks have big payments and really don't get that much better mileage.

My average for the truck in my sig is 11.7 mpg. Most of the driving is 2 lane country highway so 60-65 mph with stop signs every 5-15 miles.

You can see my list of mileage returns here: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/diyit/f250

And for 1800joedaddy: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-0-85-vid.html & https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post10823635

For me there is not any significant difference. I avg around 11 mpg with the 460, 14 with the psd. Gas is 3.01 and diesel is 3.98, comes out pretty close.
