87 2.9 bII tach quit working

I unhooked the battery to test for draw and when i hooked it back up the tach quit working. is there a procedure to test for voltage from the dist/TFI or unit itself??

Also, i'll assume it may have been just a coincidental failure of the tach, cant rule it out. Everything else functions as it should, it's just the tach that has quit.

Thanks

Replace the whole cluster but same issue.
i also noticed that I dont have any cluster warning/indicator lamps.
only codes i get are 21 and 24

have illumination, turn, gas guage, temp. They work.
Could this be a ground issue?

Make sure you check all fuses, and check for any broken wires near the starter solenoid.

Also, you may get more help in the Ranger section.

well, I fixed it.... just not sure what i did. I had some loose/exposed wires on the alternator, taped them up and messed with the wiring harness to the cluster. not sure if it was the wires at the alt or the the wires in the harness.

either way the tach and warning lights came back on.

......but for how long i must ponder?
