4WD does not engage below 15MPH 2002 Explorer

Hello,
I have a 2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition AWD V8
Had some ice a few weeks back and noticed my rear end kept slipping out from under me when I would take off from a stop. Hit the 4x4 High Button no 4x4 light on and still had the rear end slip out. I took it to a shop to have it checked. They found that in AWD or 4x4 that once they got it up to 15MPH it would kick in and start working. They scanned the 4x4CM and it was not found. Read on forums here and decided to try replacing it. My 4x4 light does not come on still after hitting 4x4 high button. Have not had any snow to fully test it but on gravel road it feels like 4x4/AWD does not work till. I am thinking about taking it back to the shop to have it scanned again but wanted to see if anyone had suggestions before I wasted the money.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gnome

Does the 4x4 light come on above 15mph when the 4WD supposedly engages? Maybe the bulb is out and the problem is actually the shift motor (common).

Hello,
No light when I hit 15MPH in 4x4 high.
Ive wondered as well if the light was out. I have thought about taking it back to get the 4x4CM scanned to see if it is seeing it now with the new one. What would you do?
Thanks,
Gnome

I would get the new unit scanned for diagnostic codes. I would also ask the shop for your old unit back since it apparently wasn't bad.
