Went to leave work yesterday just sitting there with my foot on the brake it started to miss. Drove it home, pulled drivers side valve cover and found a broken rocker arm. I have all the pieces and the push rod is not bent. I didn't have time to look into the cause. I don't recall over reving the engine at all. Its got over 2k since the rebuild. I had new valves and 910's installed. I had the machine shop do it when they cut the seats.
Could this be caused by not having it torqued-down to proper specs? As in, it got more and more loose over time and eventually the "play" caused it to break? That's my only guess.
I would make sure you have all the pieces and replace it, make sure its torqued within specs and then after 1000, 2000 miles I would pull the VC and ck the torque again just to be sure everthing is still good.
Is my thought correct in that the intake and exhaust rockers arm asemblies are the same parts just assembled the opposite way? I need to order one and wanted to order the correct one.
Thanks
Wonder if the heavier springs have anything to do with it? Maybe it was already cracked and the extra tension from the springs shortened the life. Is this your first one to break? I thought someone else just went through this.
Installed new rocker arm assembly. Turned engine over with socket to make sure everything moved ok. Started engine with v/c off. Just to check. Re-torqued rockers and injectors. Have to see how everything goes next time I drive it.
