2006 F250 6.0L 62xxx miles.

I went from Elyria, OH to mansfield, OH to pick up a truck chassis (-2000) on a 1800 lbs trailer. On the way there, the wrench llight came on like usual when i pull a trailer up a hill. Pulled over, shut the truck off and started it again and continued. On the way home, truck ran like usual with the hiccups it gets on up hill battles with a trailer and this time the CEL came on. I thought it was just the over/under boost code that i usually get.

I get home and put the scanner on it and pulls up nine codes. All injector related. The truck ran like it usually does. Had plenty of power and everything. What could be the issue here? FICM? I dont understand why the truck would run normally after the CEL came on. After i took off the trailer, i drove it like i normally do and everything seemed the same. I have no gauges on the truck and its all stock except for the 4'' exhaust i have on there.

Wouldn't that shut the truck down though? Could it be a bad IDM? How can you test the FICM to be sure

IDM is on the older 7.3 and is basicaly rthe same as a FICM that the 6.0 has

It Might shut the truck down or wont let it start especialy cold at startup and if you let it go to Long you will start EATING Injectors so I would get right on it ASAP

The First thing to check is Load test Batterys and Alternator output if those are good move on to the FICM

Check the FICM here

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html

you can use a DVM for this

But I would suggest a ScanGauge II then you can keep on top of ALL of this stuff and way easier then tearing the Coolant Bottle out to get at the FICM but do what ya have to

Thing is, I was using a winch on the trailer. Could I have a bad/weak battery that dropped the voltage down enough to cause this to happen?

The was running the whole time but that doesn't mean that one of my batteries aren't weak and didn't cause voltage to drop below a safe level. Just saying because the truck started right up this morning after sitting all night at 35-40*...

When having electrical codes, it is always wise to first check the batteries - be sure to load test them individually. If the FICM is bad, then it is likely that weak batteries were the cause.

FICMrepair.com is a great place (and reasonably priced) to send the FICM for repair and upgrades. There is a testing procedure outlined on that site as well.

Little update here. Got the batteries and alt tested and both batteries only went down to 685 and 686 CCA on a load test. The alt tested good as well. THe CEL has gone off before i tested the batteries and such which i thought was weird... I havent gotten to test the FICM yet, but truck started up like it usually does at 32 degrees not plugged in. I am getting the truck plugged up to a high dollar snap on scanner tomorrow to pull the codes (if any) and check FICM voltage cold, cranking and running. Will that suffice or should i go ahead and pull the coolant bottle and check those with a DVM?

Its best to check the FICM after a 12 hour cold soak

If you have to drive it to get it put on a scanner its not nesserly a cold start

I would go get it put on the scanner see what comes up If the FICM Volts are ok on the Scanner then check it again the next day with a DVM after a 12 hour cold soak

Odds are with the codes you have the FICM is on its way out since the Batterys and alternator check out good

possible that it could be an IPC sensor but sounds more like the ficm

+1 on it likely being the FICM. You likely saw a decrease in fuel economy as well. Whatever you do, please note that injectors can be damaged by running with low voltage to them. FICM's are tremendously inexpensive in comparison.

Let us know if we can help!

Ed, I hear your the guy to talk to around here about FICM repair and a lot of guys on here recommends your services. If I do find that the FICM is indeed the problem, you'll more than likely be getting an email from me.

In the mean time, what happens inside these that make it prone to failure and what all gets upgraded in these things to make sure this doesn't happen again?
