2005 F250 V10 Tranny question & what the heck is the thingy over the spare tire
I just purchased an 05 F250 FX4 4X4 Crew Cab 169,000 miles. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what transmission this is with the tag below...and what the heck is the thing over the spare tire, there is a hose comming off of it (plastic) going nowhere, what should that go to?. Also where does the EVAP canister go.

If you have an auto trans you have the 5R110, if you have the manual you have a ZF6.
The other pic, looks like the vapor canister to me.

Thanks for moving powerstroke
dkf, thanks again for the help, I did purchase the truck you helped me out with, now just trying to get some things fixed on it. So on the Vapor canistor, is this what needs to be changed out when getting the evap code (sorry don't have the number right now), like I stated there is a hose comming from this just hanging, I have added a picture below.
Also the transmsission is an automatic, any issues with the 5R110 or has it been a pretty good transmission.

The 5R110 is a pretty solid trans. Some of the earlier 2005 models had issues with a snap ring that caused case damage but I would think the issue would have presented itself after 170k miles already.
Some information on a typical EVAP system is below. There are sensors that could be faulty or the PO screwed with something or it could be as simple as a bad gas cap. I do find it hard to believe Ford would just zip tie a vent hose up like that.(looks fishy) My 04' doesn't have the same setup your 05' does so I can't really help you much with it. I'd hate to just throw parts at it especially since that evap cannister I link to is over a $200 part. If your stumped it may pay to have a local shop do the diagnostic work and you can replace the bad part.

Thanks again for all the info, just in case anyone else is viewing this thread, I also found this link on the Evap issues. Also I think from the link below, the tube I am referring to is just a breather tube that is to be snapped into the frame of the box.

Took out the Evap stuff yesterday over the spare tire and found out that mine has indeed been changed out at one time, as the Long tube, which I belive is the canister has a stamp date of 2008 on it. So I am wondering if I maybe do not need to purchase the whole setup, maybe just part of it to rid myself of the evap code I am getting.

Here is the cut sheet on the EVAP items, as I stated the canister is new, and I found out the hose that is zip tied up is a ford TSB fix...I am just wondering now if I need to just replace the selonoid...does the dust box ever go bad? I just hate to get into it and start replacing and then you end up replacing everything and I could have bought the whole kit the first time..just trying to get some of your guys experence on this matter. Thanks
