Replacing Parking Brake Equalizer

1992 Ford F150 Nite 5.0 4x4 5-speed

I just got the parking brake equalizer today, but cant get the cables strecthed enough to fit. Since its a 92, it has the automatic tensioner so i cant loosen it that way. Any one know how to replace the equalizer?

Pull on the parking brake release handle and keep it pulled, that will allow you to extend the cable so that you can fit the equalizer.

It is fully released and the two cables that run to the rear brakes are pulled all the way. Only 2 out of 3 cables will fit at any given time

If you pull the parking brake release lever fully out and hold it there you can then pull on the single cable coming from the parking brake mechanism and extend it far enough to get the new equalizer on to all cables. Once you have it connected then let go of the release lever and the center cable should then antomatically retract and self adjust.
