Which shop/repair manual should I buy?

With so many different manuals out there - I was wondering what some of you guys thought was the best one (Haynes, Chilton, etc). I wouldn't call myself a mechanic - but if I have pictures/instructions I can usually complete most projects myself.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm usually happy with the Haynes manual, but if that fails than usually I can find the answer here or on another site.

I only use haynes if I need a torque value real quick. For things like pinion depth and diagnosing problems, I have a detriot iron CD that has the original shop manual on it.

I much prefer the factory Ford shop manuals, mine is a five volume set, six if you count the emission system volume.
You should also consider getting a copy of the Ford parts catalog. This is a two volume set that's available on CD from HiPo Parts Garage.
I actually use the catalog more than the shop manuals. The catalog has exploded diagrams of all the parts and assemblies and comes in real handy.

I agree on the ford factory manuals. Way more complete than any other if you can find one anymore. If you can't, I guess haynes or chilton. I have the truck manual and the engine manual and the automatic transmission manual. The first tranny i built I did by the Haynes ford automatic transmission manual.

That is like gold! I've been searching for schematics and such for awhile now. Thanks for posting that tid bit.
