Another transmission thread

OK, so I've read quite a few threads on other trans mission issues, so here's mine, let's see what you think.....

To begin with, it does not engage in reverse until I give it throttle, that used to be the main concern until it started hunting on me on the interstate a few weeks back. It then went into tow haul mode and I lost overdrive until I turned it off and restarted. Codes were PO756 and P2701, loss of overdrive. I replaced the overdrive and low/reverse solenoids, and all filters. Seemed kind of better for a while, no real change in reverse though. The other day, it started shift eratic from 2nd to 3rd, I think, tow/haul light came one. Same codes as before. I can do a hard accelerate and it is OK, but a normal to mild and it acts up. The Ford trans tech thinks it has probably has a 2nd gear problem since 2nd and reverse appear to be tied together somewhat and the fact that I've already replaced the two solenoids. Before I pull this and rebuild it, what do you guys think? Thanks for any input.

maybe one of the moderators can get a hold of the resident former engineer of ford transmissions, I think he would be the only one that could answer your questions. these transmissions are not known weak points thus not much experience with failure talked about here

Thanks, that's kind of what I understand. Just trying to see if there are any other recommendations before tearing it down.

What ATF are you running? The wrong fluid can cause all kinds of solenoid issues.

I've got exactly the same issue. If reverse doesn't engage then I put it in drive and then back in reverse and it will engage every time. I'd rather do that than rev the motor. Started with just that and nothing else. A year later the shift from 2nd to 3rd is acting up but only under very light load.

Have you found the cause yet?

Well, we pulled mine and rebuilt it. My problem was that both my Low/reverse and overdrive piston were torn (well, actually the seals made on them were). Runs like a champ now!
