83 F100 3-speed MT Column Collar Part No
Newbie here.
Have an 83 F100 I6 with a three-on-the-tree manual transmission. Column collar has sheered off. Having trouble finding the part - have gone to LMC Truck, NPD, and local salvage yards to no avail.
Expanding my search to Ebay and such, am finding some for other years (e.g. 78-79) but not sure which ones will work with the 83. Can anyone point me to a source for the original correct part number for the 3-speed column shift version of the column collar on the 83?
TIA - John

Are you sure that you need a new shift collar? I had a '83 F100 with the 3 on the tree like you have. I had the same problem. I drove my truck down the road in first gear over to the Ford Dealer to get it fixed. Big mistake! They charged me $250.00 to replace the shift collar and the bushing. That was back in 1991. About 100K miles later it happened again. I found a local mechanic who charged me $75.00. He replaced the bushing which back then cost $5.00. He explained that there is a plastic bushing that wears out, making shifting very sloppy, then it eventually breaks. I hope you can still find the bushing. If you have trouble, let me know. A friend of mine bought that truck off me back in '99. He still has it. Chances are that it probably has happened again, I can find out for you if he was able to find the part and where. Good luck .

I just emailed this information to that friend of mine. I'll let you know what I find out. Another thing with those trucks is that clutch rod that attaches to the clutch pedal and goes through the floor to the shift linkage. The ends on those wear out. Depending on how long you intend on keeping the truck, you may want to see about having a spare clutch rod assembly around.

When you say the collar has sheard off, what does that mean?
The collar snaps inside the column where it connects to the shift tube, causing the shift lever to hang limp.
EOTZ7228D .. Shift Collar / Use with 3 speed M/T / Does not come with the shift lever / Obsolete
Fits: 1980/87 F100/150 & Econoline / Sorry, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

guess I must be one of the chosen lucky few. mine's got 99000 original miles and the 3 on the tree still slides right in place, unlike most mickey - moused messes I've come across in the past. I'm tellin' ya though... I can't wait to put a 5 speed in it and get away from that column shift. Whoever thought that up really needs a swift kick in the you know what! bad design all the way...

I did get mine fixed. After a couple of weeks of searching and being told no one had the collar, I looked at junkyards for the whole steering column... wasn't finding those anywhere close to me either. Then just happened to get hooked up with a a friend of a friend who knew a guy (yep, one of those stories) at a dealer up in Illinois or Iowa or someplace who said they had one sitting on a shelf at the dealership. Got them to ship it to me.
There are still a few of these out there, its just a matter of getting lucky enough to find one of the few...
Best of luck in your search!

No Ford Dealer has any listed on the in-house Ford Dealer Parts Locator System that every US and Latin American dealer uses.
I suggest you vist your local dealer, have them run this part number, see how many are available.
You will soon discover that no one has any.
When no source shows any, and this includes all the obsolete parts vendors, as I also ran the part number on their website, there's nothing else I can do.
