Here's my problem. The fuel pressure regulator is bad,but the ones I can get are not what is on the motor. The original fpr has the fuel line MADE on it and all of the replacement fpr's have a threaded port for the fuel line to attach to it. I have heard that Ford did this for a short period of time and then went to the other design. Can not find the original type anywhere.
My question.
Can I just change everything over to the other design? Even if I have to change the fuel rail that will be fine.
Thanks!
Do you have any idea what years will interchange? I have looked at about 5 different Explorers and none of them have what I need to change it over. This is a 97 4.0 sohc and the ones I have looked at have been 97-99 4.0 sohc and they are totally different. Didn't even see an fpr at all. Did Ford put 2 different fuel systems on these things??
Yes Ford did put two different fuel systems in. Your 97 is a return style and the 99 is a non return. Your system bleeds pressure off at the fuel rail through a line back to the tank. The 99+ just bleeds it of at the pump in the tank. I don't know the answer to your question. I am having issues with my 98. I may end up getting a regulator from the parts store and having a hose made up at Evco or another hose house locally.
