87 carb 460 runs like crap
My folks just recently purchased an very clean alumalite rv but has some mechanical issues and drop it off with me to give it a "tune up"
It does run but when you hit the gas it just wants to die. if you feather the gas you can get it to rev up and it seems to run move. But giving it gas off idle is something you have to feel for or its going to stall on you. Starting it cold takes a lot of work and wants to back fire on you. and it has an exhaust leak.
The RV only has around 110k miles
I pulled the cover and all the heat pipes where pluged. The air pump is gone. The egr is pluged with buble gum. almost all the vacum ports have plugs on them. valvle covers are leaking. ect.
This rv will need to pass an emission test. It will be regesterd in oregon and they do an idle test rev it for a bit to 2500 rpm then a 2nd idle test.
I can look into getting it all back to stock and give it a good tune up and carb cleaning and see how that works. but I never been a fan of the 80's emision style carbs setup's
What are my upgrade options. how hard would it be to swap out to a efi from a new 460? would it be worth it? I have the tools and I have rebuilt multple engines.
What would be place to start on finding the source of the cold start and it wanting to die off idle when pressingthe gas.
