Nice truck! I think the really low mileage is because of the 6 MPG lol

Wow...I thought my 92 fuel injected 460 10 mpg was bad. Nice truck and good luck.

Welcome to the site. Tune-up time. My 87 F250 Super Cab, 460, C-6 trans, 4.10 rear gets 10 mpg empty. 6 mpg when loaded and pulling a loaded car trailer. Low miles 65,000 on truck. As Matthew says probably due to the low mpg.

Thanks!! And Ive done a complete tune up, plugs, wires, cap, button, fuel filter, air filter, PVC, oil and filter, coolant the only thing left is the tranny and rear end but thats next weekend... The previous owner desmogged it so I went through and redid he's work cause a lot of the lines were cheep and soft and pinching closed under vacuum. And I put those little black caps on all the ports for the intake that were no longer being used.

What that being said, now it wont idle until its warmed up.. and I is scared to mess with the carb... but I guess this will be a learning curve. I did notice that when looking down into the carb that the spay from the jets looks kinda sloopy...like drops more less..any advise?

I'd pull the carb to clean and rebuild it, especially if fuel is visibly dripping down into the venturi. If you have basic mechanicl knowledge then you will have zero problems rebuilding a carb, they are very simple.

Power valve in the carb? It's a Holley 4 barrel I think.

When you do rebuild the carb I like to take it apart on a Cookie sheet - an old one keeps you out of trouble. And, put the parts in order on a towel or sheet. This keeps them from rolling off the bench or table.

How do I identify which carb I have? I've Read some not so good things about holly on this site. Would a after market one be better?

Usually on the air horn - top of carb, towards front of engine, where the air filter sits, there will be ID numbers stamped into the housing.'

That sucks didn't show the link. The carb also should have " HOLLEY" cast on the front float bowl housing. Have a Holley on my 86 351W and my 87 460. Haven't had any problems to speak of. I know some like the Edelbrocks which is a Carter. Personal choice I guess.

Holley's are WAY better than Edelbrock carburetors, those things suck. I've had nothing but problems with my Edelbrock 1406, good thing I wasn't the one that spent $300 on it. Carburetors are simple, check YouTube for Holley carburetor rebuild videos, the stock carburetor would be a Holley/Motorcraft 4180. on 351W and 460 V8's

Welcome to FTE and congrats on your truck!

I would make sure the carb you have isn't an emissions model - if it is, replace it with either a good stock non-emissions model or an aftermarket carb of your choice. You'll always see people saying that Holley's are better than Edelbrock or that Edelbrock is better than Holley. In all reality, it just comes down to what you decide, who you have around you to help you, and what your pocketbook dictates. Sometimes a stocker is nice because parts are generally cheaper and can be had at any parts store. Not all parts stores have all the Holley or Edelbrock kits you may need in stock, it just depends if you are willing to wait for things. It sounds like you can, considering you have your Honda. But like I said, listen to all the arguments and make the best decision for you.
